Yep, another chapter in the sad death of the scanning hobby. Uniden remains and will not likely design a new model any time soon, if ever.
The SDS 100 and 200 line are excellent units, and expensive in a niche hobby where slowly but surely there will be less and less to scan.
Sad, but true....

I think the author of that article got his information from here. He may had done a little bit of verification but that's about it.
If he had posted it here then you will get the typical response "It's a lot of Panicky Petes jumping to conclusions."

If a magazine posted a story like that without absolute verification, well, bad "journalism". Or FAKE NEWS!

It is interesting that everything that was identified to indicate that they are closed is something that we have talked about here on RR for a long time, we were counting on a revival of some type in another location.

I doubt very much that they are going to be brought back from the dead but it would be almost like pronouncing the patient dead, only to later, hear knocking from inside the coffin.

Wouldn't be the first time.

If nobody refutes this story and the company does not make any kind of statement that they are dead or opening a new facility then I guess it's true.

Maybe there will be some kind of a statement made here on this forum from the company, one way or another.

Remember Whistler Wendy?
She love the scanner business.
Out of the blue she decided to leave.
She told us there would be a replacement no other person showed up.
Don Starr was like Bob from Proscan here and helpful then the Firmware Timebomb and he has not been heard from again.
Remember they were going to build a new scanner like the Uniden SDS Line 1 year with no beta or anything else they dropped it.
The people we were dealing with on phones and email they were only workers not the board of directors.
The board of directors milked this investment for every penny they could get now it looks like they cut all ties.

This is for the people who sent scanners to Whistler for repair and paid and did not get the scanner back.

In Arkansas, this situation would likely be considered a violation of the Arkansas Deceptive Trade Practices Act. The Consumer Protection Division of the Arkansas Attorney General's office handles such complaints

.Under Arkansas law, if a vendor fails to repair an assistive device and does not return it, they are required to:

  1. Accept return of the device
  2. Refund the consumer
  3. Refund any holder of a perfected security interest in the consumer's device
    Arkansas Code of 1987 (2023) :: Title 4 - BUSINESS AND COMMERCIAL LAW (§§ 4-1-101 — 4-119-105) :: Subtitle 7 - CONSUMER PROTECTION (§§ 4-86-101 — 4-119-105) :: Chapter 105 - LEMON LAWS (§§ 4-105-201 — 4-105-206) :: Subchapter 2 - ASSISTIVE DEVICES (§§ 4-105-201 — 4-105-206) :: Section 4-105-204 - Repair
If the vendor has closed their business, consumers can still file a complaint with the Arkansas Attorney General's office. The process involves:
  1. Filing a consumer complaint online
  2. Emailing [email protected]
  3. Calling 800-482-8982
Consumer Protection - Arkansas Attorney General
The Consumer Protection Division may assist by mediating a resolution or pursuing legal action against the vendor for violating consumer protection laws
. While Arkansas doesn't have specific laws mandating refunds in all cases, the state does protect consumers from unfair and deceptive business practices

If anybody reading this bought a Whistler radio and are still in the warranty time frame, if there's anyone reading this who does have a Whistler radio in for repair and has not been able to contact them to find out the status of the repair maybe come forward and say how long it's been they've had their radio held. If anybody reading this has been able to contact the company, get the radio repaired and then have it returned, how long ago was that.

Just out of curiosity and an attempt to assess the situation better, hopefully those involved will step up and let us know their experiences, especially if they've been left in a pickle.

I’ve never people seem so happy that a company may have gone out of business.
Eh... I'm definitely not happy, the original company GRE has meant a lot to me over the years with all of the Radio Shack radios that they produced.

I still have a slide rule dial desktop, heavy solid metal tunable made for Radio Shack by GRE Japan from the late '60s.

My area started to shift over to phase 2 simulcast in 2015 so I just haven't had a need for the company. I do own countless GRE radios made for Radio Shack and at least three Whistler radios.

My TRX 1 worked great when we were on Motorola type ll SmartZone, we finally all went to simulcast and the TRX went into a drawer, batteries removed with very very low mileage and no I don't want to sell it.

I am definitely not a Uniden fan boy and never was LOL.

Kind of cheesy though that they have not made an official announcement, until they officially concede defeat and produce a death certificate I am in a wait and see mode.

I've got nothing to lose and no dog in the hunt.
