I like to keep various A/A frequencies in regular scan rotation, and 123.45 has always been one I've kept watch on. Back in Houston, I don't think I ever heard anything (granted, I was quite near to KIAH)

Up here South East of DFW, I hear all sorts of traffic on a daily basis. Everything from general rag-chewing to formation practices to helicopter hog hunting with full-auto weapons.

What's 12345 like in your area?

I hear non-commercial plane to plane chatter from time to time, mostly ride reports on 12345. Heli uni on 123.025 is mostly position reports entering and exiting the Philly bravo, mainly from news choppers and medevac birds in bound and departing the city hospital helipads

On helo A/A in Houston, you never know what discussion will happen late nights. Always good stuff when a chase or incident happens, but after dark, it can get weird. I think Houston leads the nation in laser/aircraft incidents, and they jump on those lasers like a chicken on a garter snake.

If you want to be a laser imbecile in Houston, just know that there's more folks than just the police aircraft hunting your ignorant carcass.

I have 123.450 in my scan list in the BC-780XLT. However, I know I'm missing traffic because of all the activity from Newark Airport. Think I'll enter 12345 in a separate scanner and just camp out there.

I hear a lot more activity on 12345 that I do on the official A/A freqs.

Helo A/A is always on in all my scanners. In Houston, the best listening was always at night between the LE and Medevac helos.
I have heard the news choppers on Helo A/A asking HPD Fox or DPS what was going on. They had a nice brief about the scene and all that. The pilots were very cordial to each other.

Once I was listening to Hobby tower and a few HPD Fox choppers all took off at the same time. Tower asked them "hey guys whats going on? every one leaving so fast" and Fox briefed them.

You never know where you can pick up tidbits here and there.

And yes, Fingers (123.450) is very busy in this area. I hear everything from GA to the airlines chit chatting.

You are correct. On more than one occasion on Hobby Tower, i have heard them call the HPD FOX Helo over a report about an airliner getting lased. They were on that fast and found where they were at.

I don't know if it is international but a lot of frequencies in the 123MHz band are dedicated to be used between helicopters and ground crew, when transporting gods and so on, and a lot of frequencies for private airstrips and gliders but there's also 123.300 that probably are a Search&Rescue frequency internationally. I suggest to program the whole 123MHz with 25KHz steps to probably find some interesting communication.

Every time I heard the LE and news helos together, they were always helping each other out. Seemed like a good bunch of folks.

I was in the Kingwood area, and never heard anything on digits... I was fairly close to KIAH and even closer to a 50kW FM station, so i know i was largely deaf to the West and SouthWest. Always heard TFS air assets well to the North, though.

Usually if they need help looking for something they will shout out to other choppers what they are looking for.

I live in Cape May,NJ right on the coast and I would expect more than I get! I have a roof antenna and it does catch a few things but not like other folks report so I am a bit disappointed. Waiting for a really big band opening. Actually during the summers we have banner planes that are on 130.300 constantly

I'll be in Cape May next month for a few days. Thanks for the frequency.

Here in Indy it's sporadic on 45... Though you do hear Helo's warning each other that IMPD has drones up, or the ISP bird letting others know that they are doing ops. And at least in good weather, the rented Huey doing flights from the VFW out near the Tibbs Drive In talking to the ever present LifeLine birds. Used to hear the IMPD bird a lot back when they had one.

Not much here in Southern Manitoba... I've got a radio parked on 123.45. It's been there for the last five days. I've got it turned up full volume so I don't miss anything. I finally heard a bit of chatter today.. About 3 minutes worth and only half half the conversation.. One guy wishing the other a good flight.

My ear can hear from about Los Angeles to Sacramento. The California coastal and the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges can get in the way at times though. There is definitely chatter on the air to air freqs over here.
123.45 - Five Fingers
246.8 - Cheerleader
246.9 - Dirty Cheerleader

I probably have over three dozen various A-A frequencies delegated out to different scanners. Hmm...the RR Wiki page is missing two of the several I noted above. Still, I don't get hits on all of the frequencies I have programmed and some are rare hits. Perhaps time to add one or two more scanners and distribute things a little more.
