171 Longwave ...Morocco

Thanks for the tip. Have never heard DX on longwave, been trying for many years, maybe now's the time. I am using a 31 foot vertical, not sure how well it'll do on the lower end of LW but it picks up LW aero beacons pretty well.

Winter nights are the best time for LW dxing ...the other stations are Algeria on 252 (which lately all I
get is a strong carrier)
BBC on 198...Romania on 153 , and Iceland that was on 189 now but beleive shut down now?..I use to
cpy it...and France on 162 that turned into a time station now...real challenge LW! My Pixel loop works
real well on LW and super quiet but I cannot use a wire ant. here on LW way too much local qrm!

Sad but true. BBC 198 will likely go off the air this year. I believe the BBC is already on reduced power. Not sure about 171 Morocco or 252 Algeria. Too much noise in my location to hear these direct, but can be reliably heard on the Prince Edward Island SDR.

I have not heard a LW BC in years but I really do not have a good antenna for that after my longer wire antenna went down (Tree died and had to take it down) Only have a Hustler 6BTV Vertical and a short 33 FT OCFD now

For now I do have a el-cheapo MLA-30 and it is just mounted on a wall in my Radio room.
On my someday when I have money and time (Harder for me to find time right now actually) I plan on putting a good Loop Outside

In case anyone is interested, 171 from Morocco is putting a decent signal into the Prince Edward Island Kiwi SDR (link below) tonight (02:18 UTC). Also hearing the BBC 198khz and Algeria on 252khz.

When I was set up for it a few years ago Morocco 171 kHz would sometimes come booming in, I loved listening with a wide filter and enjoyed the music. Glad that it's still on the air.
Nice! They are still playing the music. I can't hear them or any other LW broadcast locally mostly due to the high noise level, but an SDR like the one I linked above is a good way to tune in. These LW stations are rapidly going dark.
