Hello all I am in need of some help. I am having some interference issues with my kenwood ts2000 on the 2 meter band. Here is what is happening. Early morning and late night I have no issues. Roughly around noon I have a real bad hashing white noise across the entire band. It last untill about 9-10 pm. Whats really puzzling about it is the s meter shows rf via the meter bouncing back and forth, with no audio. But if something somes across a repeater the radio cuts loose with noise. Another strange thing is if it has been raining or cloudy there is no issue. Any help will be greatly appreciatied!!!

It is hard to say anything definite about your situation, but I do have a suggestion: have you looked around at all the cable installations in your area? Are they all in good shape? Might you be hearing some data traffic on the cable system?

I'm also suspicious that you might be hearing traffic leaking through the transverter. If you take the HF antennas off, do you still hear the noise?

It could be powerline noise, but we can't determine that from here with the information given. What do you have in the way of tools to hunt this down? Do you have a portable receiver and a directional antenna you can walk around the neighborhood with? Something that does AM (like an air band receiver) would be good. Does your TS2000 do air band receive? Is the noise present there?

Hey thanks for the reply's. Here is a little more info. The radio will receive 118-177 mhz. I have interference from 119-121, 125-131, 140-155. From 155 thru the rest of the band it is quiet. Also the following freq. it locks on with full scale 40+ noise. 139.250, 148.500, 149.750, 151.250.

139.250 MHz = Cable Ch 17 video carrier
148.500 MHz = ?
149.750 MHz = Cable Ch 18 audio carrier
151.250 MHz = Cable Ch 19 video carrier

Sounds to me like your cable TV installation is the problem.

Remember, Cable TV is supposed to be a closed system. However, due to poor installation practices, many cable systems radiate fairly strong signals.

If you disconnect the Cable TV cable where it comes into your house and the noise goes away, the problem is most likely inside your house and you will be responsible for fixing it. If you disconnect the incoming cable and the noise remains, call your Cable TV company.

Thanks for the reply. One Question about the above mentioned cable video carriers. Would that issue happen all the time and not just during the mid-day to night??

It'd be all the time.

Maybe temperature is affecting a device in the cable system that is causing the leakage.

Lots of possibilities! And I have no specific ideas what they could be. Is there anything that's 'ON' during those time periods that may be producing hash noise? In your house or area? It can originate from almost anything that uses electricity. Used to have a thermostat that would raise unholy #3\\ with radios! Talk about aggravating, and it took me a very long time to find it. What's changed recently? That covers a huge range of things!
Good luck.

Do you have any lights that may kick on at those times? I've heard some reports of people going nuts over this, only to discover that it was the under counter lights that come on (or some other light source) at a specific time and cause the issue.
