Before you see the pics, I just want to let you know that I'm not doing any type of permanent install. The trunk lip mounts work great for me, and I have no plans on drilling any holes :)

Geeez, what kind of idiot would mount a scanner directly on the dash? Oh, yeah, forgot until I got this truck in Feb that I did that for the last eight years :D I guess I need to get around and mounting the 2055 on the dash of this truck, been using handheld scanners since I got it.

It could be cleaned up some, but I have had a lot worse for a long time so I won't say anything. How are you mounting the scanner on the dash? Just velcro or something else not seen? I used the heavy duty wide velcro to mount them (2053 and later a 2055) to the center of the dash of my 1994 caprice, and the stock bracket to mount the 2046 and sometimes the 2055 to the dash trim just in front of me at steering wheel level.

Oh yeah, almost forgot.... Wacker  (yeah, I saw his bag, wanted to have fun anyway before someone who does not have a clue chimes in)....

lol @ the mini phantom. i love mine! but put that above the mirror and to the right of it (if you're sitting in the car) then just run the wire up through the moulding and down the A post. keeps it all out of the way. haha i have my CB up on the dash but on the right... of course its permanantly there. is that duct tape i see?!

I have it on the dash so I can easily see which frequency is being used when I hear activity, I had my old 2054 mounted under the seat and through the stereo, but it was always a pain trying to guess who it was that was transmitting. It can be cleaned up some, especially on the dash, I have just gotten so accustomed to it that it doesn't really bother me, and I haven't had any run in with the law so it doesn't seem to be an issue.

I thought about mounting the mini phantom above the mirror, although I prefer using the mirror mount as opposed to the window mount, as it seems more secure. I plan on adding one to the rear window as well.

The trunk lip mount is probably the most professional looking thing I have, haha. I bought them for $25 shipped each on ebay and they have been great so far. Once the winter is over I may get arround to re-arranging my equipment for a better looking install, although as I said before I don't want to permanently mount them anywhere.

Like the antenna mounts and your Camry is sharp. Was looking at one today while getting my Yota serviced, One would understand why you would not want to drill any holes but, a scanner on the dashboard in that fashion (temp or not) is a bad idea. Not to mention, unsafe. IMO, it also cheapens the look of your car.

I agree with NoRide. The antenna installs are very good looking. I also expect that when you get a bit of time you're going to neaten up the power wires in the trunk.

I'd suggest mounting the ham radio chassis up as high as you can. You can do this permanently and no holes will show. Just takes a bit of ingenuity.

You're really better off doing something with the scanner install. If you should get in an accident, you're likely to be eating that scanner. Not to mention if you get pulled over and having the officer write you for this,

Clean up that interior and get that scanner off the dash. That's 'bout the dumbest thing I've seen in a while. You hit something or get hit and the last thing through your mind will be that scanner. Ouchtown, population: You.

Good antenna install for lip mounts, but I'd consider moving them forward a bit to get more of a ground plane under them. Bonus points for black whips :)

I like the setup. I can't hate on where the scanner is because I have my CB radio mounted in a similar fashion. I have it just over the tach in my Camaro next to my satellite radio (which is adjacent to the left pillar on the windshield). If a cop brings out the obstruction of view (there's a similar law in KY) then they're just trying to be a prick. I know several cops and they haven't had any issue with it neither did the cop that pulled me over once. My antenna is where I need work. I like the antenna installs on yours and that just might be worth it for my CB. I was gonna mount it on the top but for some reason the roof is fiberglass (my old 95 was metal behind the T-Tops so that caught me completely off guard) so I have it on the back sticking off at an angle. I'll get pics up sometime. nothing much but I like my little setup. i just have a handheld scanner right now gonna go for a permenant install eventually. But major kudos on the setup.

I'll probably move the scanner this afternoon, I never really thought about it much since I'm just so used to it. The only thing is I need to be able to use the integrated speaker, so I can't mount it too far away.

EDIT: I relocated the scanner underneath the passenger seat with the speaker pointing upwards, and I can hear it just fine. Thanks again guys for the positive criticism, as without it I would have left it there which could have gotten me in trouble with the law or could have caused injury.

I don't know what a mini Phantom is, but I wanted to ask you if you used it when delivering pizza!

How did you know?! :p

No I don't use it for that, I use it when I go to a scene, since I'm a member of the local fire department.

The bag in the back was my first clue! It so big I was wondering if you can do oral surgery in the back seat?!! I'm not currently qualified as an EMT, having been on a volunteer fire department many years ago. My trunk looks about like yours does - half full of emergency gear and tools, although you might have your turnouts in that bag.

Now that you've had to put your scanner under the seat again, consider buying on of the new scanners that fits into a DIN standard dash electronics rack. I put my PRO-2067 in the rack and it was worth the effort. I will always do it that way in the future. In the next few months I hope to have a GRE PSR-600 in that rack.

Now, I live in Mammoth Lakes, California and I would like a large pepperoni, mushroom, and olive pizza for dinner. Use the mini Phantom and you should have no problem!

A bit harsh, but true none the less.

The problem might be that if he moves them up the trunk lid, they will hit the roof or "C" pillars when he opens the trunk.
