Round 3. Well, another Winter Storm Warning for North and Central Alberta. Hope it is not a repeat of 2 weeks ago. But in Calgary, we were too far away to hear the action. But yesterday afternoon and this morning, lots of radio activity with the fatality on Deathfoot Trail, collisions all over the city, and wooden power poles catching fire. Not to slam Northern Alberta, but I do hope this storm doesn't come south of Red Deer.

Lost count so not sure what round this is, ? 6. Heavy snow fall warning for north central and eastern Alberta for 15-25 cms snow from Grande Cache to the Coronation area. Uncertain about what will happen Olds and south at this time. Even without any warnings, Cochrane RCMP were busy last Saturday with semis flying over Scott Lake Hill only to have to slam on brakes coming down the east side. Recorded one semi sliding sideways at 80 kph and just missed slamming into the RCMP vehicle. Then last night had number of problems by weigh scale and Scott Lake Hill. And last Saturday and yesterday there were no warnings. So could get busy this weekend again.

That's because Edmonton is used to all the snow this year. Hope it doesn't end in disaster like a couple of Thursdays ago!

Glad I drove yesterday! Not too bad in Calgary, but it has been snowing lightly

Yes, pretty calm in Calgary and area most of day. Scanner activity now picking up with Fire reporting roads getting icy, and in Cochrane, drivers can't make it out of the valley. Airport reporting slush, and ice forming along with drifting snow. Another crash on Glenmore Trail with a person trapped. Police reporting roads absolutely horribly. I see Highway 9 closed from Morrin Corner to Hanna.

Heard someone got rung up for a buck fifty-seven in a 100 zone on 566 east of Balzac around noon today. On my way home from work I responded to a rollover on 1 near Old Banff Coach Road. Sounds like it could be a busy evening.

Ya and the one weekend I don't bring a scanner pre-programmed for Calgary or have my cable to hook up to my computer. :(

Oh well, guess I'll have to do it old school and program it manually.

First time all winter I have heard Volker on 151.67 south of Calgary around Dunbow Road. At 2245 now that a lot of traffic not on roads, things have been quieter. Side roads and non main roads are a curling rink with snow on top. That guy doing 150 with fog/sleet/snow on a country road has suicide in his head [can't say brain because, obviously, he doesn't have one].

There's a media report of a Strathmore man going 150 plus in a 100 zone. In the car was his wife and four small kids. Three of his were his own and the fourth belonged to someone else.

Yea, 154km/h on secondary highway 566. A two lane highway east of Airdrie... That guy deserves to be charged with much more than speeding.

Restarting this up again after recent semi blizzard in Calgary, especially the north end. Now that Stony Trail is open to 22x I am hearing road crews clearing this stretch. With the recent opening of this stretch there was mention that it is maintained by Mainroad Contracting [actually out of Surrey BC]. This supports what I have been hearing on 169.71 the past month.

CANWARN

Calgary Regional ARES is looking to get CANWARN training in the new year so when these major storms come in we can start a CANWARN net and advise Environment Canada.

If your interested check out CalgaryRegionalARES.ca

Although no storm warnings on the evening of 2013 Dec. 15, a snow system went through Calgary causing a medical flight to divert from Foothills Medical Centre and some RCMP reporting white out conditions. Probably wouldn't warrant CANWARN tonight, but people still speeding on local highways, hitting ditches and crashes inside the city.

I made a connection earlier this week that I'm surprised took me this long to figure out.

Serious crash on Calgary's Glenmore Tr. kills one child, critically injures another | Calgary | News | Calgary Sun

You're calgary_bob1, aren't you?

The callousness and idiocy (or should I say "i" diocy?) that poster conveys in commenting on articles like that is reprehensible. Yes, people drive like morons in this region. But calgary_bob1 is the epitome of the Internet poster who hides behind a keyboard and doesn't believe that his comments will have any impact on anyone else. Granted, the Sun comments section is a septic tank of douchebaggery on its best day, but someone who knows that family is going to read that article and see those horrific comments, calgary_bob1's included. I, as an emergency responder (who wasn't even involved in this incident) and the uncle to three children, was nearly physically sick hearing about this situation. To see these imbeciles in the Sun comments section doing what they normally do in there almost puts me over the edge.

Somebody's lost a little boy six days before Christmas. Have some respect.

The comments by Calgary_bob1 and others were totally insensitive. I don't know why news organizations leave stories like these open for comments. I guess they feel some will make meaningful posts but these comments from arm chair twits always happen.

Holy crap, Jay. You win poster of the month.

Looking back, it's pretty clear. I know a lot of people (including some of my bosses at the Sun) are fed the heck up at calgary_bob and would love to know who he is.

Wow....
