Nice setup. How does the A25 compare to the R30? Which one do you prefer for airband reception?

I find both to be pretty equal reception-wise for VHF aircomms. The R30 adds the ability to monitor UHF aircomms. One nit for me with the A25 is the lack of a skip feature when in scanning mode to bypass AWOS broadcasts, etc. If it had to be just one for me, I'd lean toward the R30; however, I enjoy both!

Thanks for the info. I have an R30 and have a general curiosity about the A25. Not being able to skip frequencies during a VFO scan would be annoying. I do the majority of my airband scanning using memory scan so that would not be a big issue for me.

I use memory scan on the A25 and employ memory channel naming though the number of allowed channel name characters is limited (12). Still enough info for me to ID each stopped frequency while scanning.

Some may be curious about the antennas used for my shack. I currently use DPD's OmniX Scanner Base Antenna for VHF/UHF and PAR's End-Fedz EF-SWL half wave antenna for < 30 MHz. Antenna signals are distributed to my receivers using Stridsberg's VHF/UHF and HF active multicouplers.

What antenna do you have on the President Randy?

That is a foldable President Tactical Antenna (ACMR401). I ordered it through the Groupe President Electronics site out of France having not been able to locate a source in the US.

Great choices! Everything looks awesome, very functional.

Very nice. Every time I see these types of posts ,I can see what my potential messy radio bench could become, if I were to clean it up.......a lot. Thank you for posting.

My first "shack" consisted of a lone Electra Bearcat III back in the late 70's. Glad I don't have to shell out for crystals anymore!

Nice shack. I need to quit looking at these nice shacks. Make me want to spend more money to make my cluttered corner into a good looking shack. I just blame you folks when I get another radio and the wife cracks me. Haha

What is the keyboard between the keyboard and the mouse? The roller ball device with the multiple keys?

That is a P.I. Engineering X-keys Jog & Shuttle Pro. Sadly it is no longer sold as it works great with WINRADIO's WR-G31DDC Excalibur.

Great setup and love the ergonomic, you can view all and type without break neck!!! How perform winradio compared to icom 8600 and other modern scanner/receiver? And icom R30 vs R20?(y)
