I'll have to see about 29.620 next time it's open up that way, I used to talk there occasionally. that thing was pretty good usually here when the band was open. I don't do a lot of 10 FM but occasionally when it's really good I like to get on there.
I think it's out of the Los Angeles area. It's not the usual KQ2H NY flamethrower. I think the first time I heard this one was maybe late last year. But, with 10 meters, who knows where it's really located. I don't know where the 29.680 is. There was the Canadian one that used to come in reliably but I haven't heard it for a long time. I'm not sure if the fast cycling one is that but I tend to doubt it since it seemed to be well used and monitored by the guys up there.

10 FM can be fun. Remember the Virgin Islands repeater on 29.660? That came in daily during Cycle 22. I remember circa 1992, a friend of mine had a BC-200XLT and was copying it full quieting on the stock rubber duck antenna.

I used to hear KQ2H direct here in NJ just because of the elevation the repeater is at. I hear his 2M machine everyday.

29.680 could be Texas, but that would be very short skip to you in Kansas. Maybe the fast cycling is due to it being linked to 2m/440?

I remember that one. Didn't it have a doorbell sound like the KQ2H does now? I used to hear Ft. Hood range on 30.450 on one of those on the same antenna inside a vehicle. That solar cycle was lit. It probably had a lot to do with people actually talking on 10 and 6 and more low band services in use I assume.

Exactly! KQ2H uses the same or similar tone. To me, the VI turnaround tone sounded like the "doors closing" warning on the PATH trains here.

I agre about Cycle 22 - none of the recent cycles have topped it. Ft. Hood Range was another regular during that time. In 1990, I had a PRO-2006 and a discone in the attic (parents did not allow outdoor antennas LOL) and was logging lots of VHF low DX. Also worked a fair amount of 11M skip on an attic CB antenna back then.

There were definitely more users on low band in those days.

I wasn't licensed till 95 and I can't remember if it was later 95 or early 96 when I upgraded to general. I have worked that repeater on the VI however in my early days as a ham. Might have been cycle 22 still or the end of it.

10 FM used to really be good during the openings. Any more don't hear near what I used to. I still hear stuff occasionally there but honesty I don't check real often.

I've always been more of a SSB (and even some CW in the early days) guy. I'll have to go up and listen occasionally, I know last week on SSB with the DX contest going on, I heard a LOT of states answering some of the DX calls but obviously, couldn't (well or shouldn't) work them at that time. I have to kind of chuckle at all the "ham radio is dying" comments I see, between 28.3, and almost 29 MHz, there wasn't a place you couldn't go every several KHz and hear someone.

Using a BC260DN with ProScan and a 10Meter dipole about 35 feet. Going to change this to 3 element fan dipole for low-band. Not sure what the segments will be but something like 30-39-45 Mhz.

Interesting that the band started @ 39mhz for me to the west, then went up to 42mhz then started to back down before it went POOF! which is why I left the beginning time in there.

Location is Tallahassee, FL
