Do they come from Andrews or repeaters thruout the U.S.? I heard a few yesterday and I just have a 18" antenna on the back of my BC396D inside the house. I'm 2,000 feet on top of a knob.

I have heard one EAM on 311.0, and it was from an airborne platform, I could tell because of the sound and a little fading.

That's all I know, sorry I couldn't help!

EAM's

Hello CapnJon,
It is possible to hear an EAM when your pretty close to an Airbase that has them. Are you close to K.I. Sawyer International Airport. There might still be a transmitter there from the old SAC days of B-52's & F-106's of Big Red Bulls fame.
I can't find Poverty Knob, MI? You're not even on a map that I can find. That must be one small town.

Some other freqs to watch.

Could be coming from Duluth, MN, too, depending on how far west he is in the UP. I recall there being a MNANG F-16 unit there with an air superiority mission.

hey Nodak you ever hear any EAM's coming from selfridge?

Only one time & that was a few years ago. I haven't heard one on UHF since then. It would be nice to be able to hear EAM's on UHF. I can't stand the static noise on HF, it drives me crazy.
Guess I'll have to move to Offutt AFB in Omaha Nebraska or Ellsworth AFB South Dakota to hear some UHF EAM's. Heard a few of them when travelling in those area's years ago.

I'm east of Bessemer and Ironwood, just a few miles from the border from Hurley. I put a bunch of freqs in my bc796d 2 nights ago, i'll have to check and make sure to see if some of the Duluth freq's are there. I see them all the time overhead and they always train here too along with watching the refuel ops just about every night.

Thanks for the replies..."poverty knob" is the nickname I gave this little 2,000 foot hill I live in. LOL

EAMs don't really have anything to do with fighter/interceptor type ops. Best bet for his 311.0MHz emitter was an E-6B aircraft doing a US Strategic Command mission. I suppose sometimes they'll be over one of the Great Lakes doing trailing wire antenna operations.

E-6B TACAMO use the Great Lakes area quite often for traling wire ops.
Have to watch the ARTCC NOTAMS for date and time.
