When I clik connect it says can't because port may be in use by another program??
Again, using that list (I pictured in my last post) you can correct conflicts if they exist.

Okay and it then says baud 9600 which can be changed. My computer says 9600 and the unit is set to 9600. But I still get the error about another program may be using it.

Try this, reboot the computer, and go for the radio communication first. Even though you may not have a COM port assigned, some software products (especially PDA devices) tend to "hog" a COM port once assigned.

Lou, ok, I unplugged the Belkin.

I then did a reboot.

I then went into ports and only 2 things are there, I plugged in the Belkin, bing, and it showed up and said com port 10. No matter where I plug it in it shows up 10???

Still wont connect.

My com port 9 says RIM BlackBerry and it is unplugged. So I plugged the Belking into 9 and changed the unit and UASD and it starts to read it then I get the original communication error.

I am glad you got it going. As I said, PDA's (including smart phones) software tend to hold onto a COM port causing trouble for other items that get one only when connected.

Lou,

I got someone to help me program that is local in my area, but I kinda need it done today. Is there a easy way to program thru the UASD just for my one police freqs. I cant seem to find where to enter the freqs in UASD? I only have to enter 20 freqs, and a a few ID tags.

Download the radio to the computer and call the configuration (entire setup) some name like "Default".

Make up a new System file (or files) for what you need.
Make up a new Configuration file and load that new system file into it (or files).
Then upload the new Configuration file to the radio, erasing the radio in the process.

The system files and the configuration files are on different tabs in the software but connected by what you put in the configuration file (under the Systems tab.)

In system database I put in Baltimore County.

Then I made my groups (how many can I make?)

Now where do I put in the 20 freqs and id tags?

There are UASD files in the BCD396 yahoo group for both Baltimore city and county. They're a bit dated, but they should get you off the ground.

I can't download anything from work - can anyone email those files from that Yahoo group to Howard?

Mike, I cant believe it, I downloaded from BCTool Baltimore County Public Safety and uploaded it to the unit and it works. Now I have to figure out how to clean it up and set what I want.

Well done! It took me 3 or 4 tries to get things set up the way I wanted them to be, so don't feel too discouraged if you have the same happen to you. 73 Mike
