Any suggestions on a brand of dc adapter for the 396xt. From what I can tell we have 3 AA batteries Times 1.5volts = 4.5 volts, but the info that I have found says to use a 6 volt adapter. Is this correct?

Thanks

I believe it is 6v, but you are aware that one is included in the box with the scanner?

Think he just got AC and DC adapter mixed up... there is an AC adapter but not DC

The DC adapters from the 396T should work as well... will make it easier to find them on ebay etc rather then looking for 396XT dc adapter

You are correct - need new prescription for the glasses. 8^/ For DC in vehicles, I'm using an old RS 6v adapter that takes adaptaplug connector tips. I believe it's "B."

On the UnidenDirect website its said to use the DC adaptor BADG0687001 for both BC246T and BCD396XT, but on the BC246T its said 6V 500MA and on the BCD396XT its said 6V 800MA. Can I really use this adaptor for BC246T without problems even if Amperage is higher?

thank

yes it's fine. I believe the scanner will only draw what it needs.
Long as the voltage is correct and there is enough mah

I don't know if it the BADG0687001 because I bought the BC246T used and it came with it.
The only thing i see on it its 6V 500MAh nothing else, but look likes the same as Uniden.

The Uniden ones are 800 mah (least mine is).. he has 500mah so probably a 3rd party adapter.

The electronics guys can speak up, but it should work..
I suggest not charging batteries while using that adapter.. as the mah is lower then what it might need.

General use of the scanner only (no charging) needs only like 200mah.

If you mean you have this cord: Uniden Online Store - Accessory Detail
then yes, you can use it with the BCD396XT.

If you have some other cord, I cannot advise.

The manufacturer-approved DC adapter has a label that looks like the below. In addition to being electrically compatible with the charging circuit, it minimizes RF interference from the switching mode regulator used.

I have a BCD396XT and found that Scanner World sells their 396MPC cigar lighter power adapter which works perfectly. It's a lot cheaper than the Radio Shack unit and no goofy adapter tips to mess around with.

Simple and effective; I like mine very much.

Thanks for the info James, but I was kinda looking for a quick fix though. I have 2 radio shacks within half a mile, wasnt really trying to order. But I maybe ordering anyway, I just broke the belt clip on my 396XT so I need to get a new one or a case

Upman,

I have both 396T and 396XT.

1. Are the wall warts for both of these interchangeable (I use them only as power supplies, not chargers)?

2. Can the pictured Uniden dc car cord for the 396T be used also for the 396XT?

3. If I am using this Uniden dc car cord on either scanner, can I attach an external antenna to the portable (mag mount --- antenna not mounted to car chassis) without hurting the scanner? (I remember an earlier issue about using an external antenna and a powered speaker on the 369T in the car when that scanner first came out.. that is why I am asking this question).

Thanks for be here.
