A couple of years ago during the G20 time in Toronto a P25 system was put up for a brief time and was quickly taken down after the event.

I have kept the frequencies in my scanner in case of any future activity.

The list of freq. used then were below:

Code:
857.0875 [SIZE=1](old Etobicoke Fire trunk channel)[/SIZE]
857.1375
857.2625
857.3375 [SIZE=1](old Etobicoke Fire trunk channel)[/SIZE]
857.5625
857.6125 [SIZE=1](old Scarborough Fire trunk channel)[/SIZE]
857.7125 [SIZE=1](old East York Fire trunk channel)[/SIZE]
857.7625
857.9625
858.1375 [SIZE=1](old Metro Toronto EMS trunk channel)[/SIZE]
859.4375
859.5125
859.7625
859.8125 [SIZE=1]Secondary control channel (old Etobicoke Fire trunk channel)[/SIZE]
859.9625
860.3625
860.5125
860.8625 [SIZE=1]Primary control channel[/SIZE]

A couple of days ago I started hearing weak P25 control activity on the following from the above list
  • 857.08750
  • 859.81250 (co-incidentally a Halton P25 freq.)
  • 857.33750
  • 857.76250
  • 859.51250 (also a Halton P25 freq.)
They are too weak for me to get any data from, so I don't know what I am hearing and will not speculate on what these may be. However, I wanted to throw this info out there in case someone can find it useful.

Your freq's pretty much make that list I posted obsolete.
Looks like I'll have to do some editing of my HP favourites list and on the 996XT as well. :)

I'll put the system up in the database for us to work on.

Thanks for the info, Ed.

Any idea as to where this system is? West end? I know where you live Mike but the other gentlemen did not say where he heard it.

If I recall, it is atop First Canadian Place located at King St. West and Bay St., downtown Toronto.

Wonder how much power it is pumping out right now.. Can you hear it in the far west Eric?

I'll throw it on my HP tonite and let you know Matt.
I am at work right now.
I cant get the TPS from 1ST Can Place with a KSMA1 with my HP but I can usually hear the TPS system for the south and west towers on my 250 with my wire hanger hookup even when it is facing in the opposite direction.

Too noisy to tell from Aldershot Matt.

I will give it a go when I commute and "f" around with it at work.

I was able to hear it and see it as I approached from the QEW in Mississauga,

the Systwm Id was 03c2h-001 Site Id 005
the WACN was BEE00
And the Nac is 3c5

the current C/C is 862.1625, the 3rd frequency in the list. It is noisy up here in Rexdale though.

so its running off 1st Canadian Place (tallest office tower in Canada which from the roof could by direct line hit a large part of Halton) and a couple of those freq are ALSO a couple of the Halton P25 frequencies?

Wouldnt that make for a very messy recipe for interfearance?

Cant hear it from Halton, Maybe in the front of my building where you can barely see the CN Tower I could but I face more to the North than to the east on my side,

Maybe its just less power or something but Id question if its off 1st Canadian Place.

Does anyone know where the talkgroup came from that's in the DB? I find it pretty curious that the hex ID is the same as the System ID...

Hi

Has anyone been monitoring this system?

The reaso I ask is that someone I know saw them installing new radios in crusers, and was told that the switch was happening soon.

Pretty much everyone city-wide has switched to the new radios, there's only a hand full of users who haven't. Once that happens, there's nothing to stop the new system from going operational. I doubt it will happen overnight though. I would expect to see a patch in place for awhile. Infact, that's exactly what is happening, they're using a Motorola P25 migration tool which allows the SmartZone system to be patched in entirety as another zone on the P25, once it is up and running, making the switch totally seamless to users.
