    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value.     The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I am real knew to this. I just saw that the federal govrnment is on a 400mhz trunked system. Excuse me but is this an edac or what how do you program this? Thank you. I use a BC246T

At some sites the Government uses EDACS... At others Motorola.
The Government also has VHF Hi Band TRS's. There are also still MANY sites that are NOT trunked yet, and use conventional systems...
They are all digital capable.

Thank God the vast majority are Motorola Systems. For the Motorola ones you would need all the freqs for the individual system you wish to monitor.... *NOTE* Some systems we can NOT legally tell you about . *END NOTE*

After you have all the frequencies, you would need the proper Base, and Offsets, and spacing. Then you can scan away.. unless its an EDACS system in which case your out of luck as there is NO scanner made that can do EDACS digital (Provoice).

Actually Lous.... No matter WHAT scanner you have you really are better off knowing every single freq in use on the TRS.. This way you can accurately determine proper settings as to if there is a multitable type system (Main system with subsytems involved), All the CC's as well as alt CC's.. and just good habit period. As for trunking them in the scanner.. that is negotiable depending on scanner type.

Trunking basics 101: If you have all the freqs in use, you will NOT miss any comms due to imcomplete info. :)

But this was then amended when CC only tt's came about to read....

If you have all the freqs in use you will have a proper knowledge base for properly scanning the system.

While this is true, it is just a nice to know, not necessary depending on the scanner in use once again.

Settings can be accurately determined from 2 known freqencies and channel numbers. Without the channel numbers, then yes, you need more frequencies. Hell, you can make a pretty good guess with one frequency and channel number. Most government systems are not multi-table (although I will admit there are a few) and multi-table has nothing to do with "main" or "subsystems" (I am not sure even what you are talking about there.)

With Federal UHF systems.. these can and are divided into "Subsytems" within the main TRS.... Instead of having a seperate TRS for say the Admin folks, and to make it a lil more secure.. they set up a subsytem- essentially an internal TRS within the main TRS, using a completely seperate configuration than the primary one. Back in the early days in 800 MHz TRS's... they used to do something simular.. thus the old advice to look at the FCC Callsigns for every freq in the system and look at locations. You could have one large system made up of two subsystems.... Nowdays on 800 MHz you just use a Smartzone, and coordinate the system with its features through the MCC.

UHF, and VHF Federal stuff seems to be different in this regard. Maybe its eventually going to be, or is changing into the same format as the old dog 800/900 stuff.

Then again with the restrictions on civilians in regards to all federal information- Just discussing how it works for a specific system is challenging eneough. :twisted:
