I have just returned from a trip out of town and had my scanners along.

Something rather strange happened that I cannot understand. The scanner in my vehicle is connected to a GPS device so that desired Favorites Lists come on in certain places and all of my "stuff" is set to location control.

I also have some department quick keys set to off by default. That is so even if I'm in the correct location, the channels associated with that department won't come on unless I want them to by turning the department quick key on. However in a couple of instances, these department quick keys seemed to have "magically" turned themselves on.

Has anyone else seen this occur and can perhaps offer an explanation? It isn't a mjaor issue, rather I'm just curious on why this happened.

Maybe you had them on before and didn't turn them off, and they were off until you drove into that area? Or perhaps you removed power from the scanner so it could not write the power-down status?

I'd say they did that because you powered the scanner off, I've noticed with my 436 whenever I avoid something and then change batteries I have avoid it again.

Again, if you don't power it down, it can't write the settings.

Forced removal of power is not good for a scanner or a PC (or anything that writes to media on power-down),

Could be that the radio hicupped and rebooted. I've had this happen on both the 436 and 536. When it reboots, it will revert back the whatever settings were last stored at NORMAL power down.

I don't believe it would be due to a power down situation. The quick key for the department is off by default (Dept/Site Quick Keys Status tab) and should not have come on. I didn't do anything to cause it to come on, thus even with a power to scanner disruption, it should have remained off.

I'm not familar with Private Call situations as this is not available in my local system. I wonder if a private call may have been on-going between a talkgroup that I had active and one of the inactive talkgroups? Alternatively could this be a talkgroup patch generated thing, again between an active and inactive talkgroup?

Could be early symptoms of an SD card going bad. (not reading that bit correctly)
