Back to NOT Working for Sheriff, local PD or EMS, but is scanning

I thought it was working because I saw Burkesville PD on the bottom row. Did not see the frequency but it was just State Police post 15 Burkesville. I also did channel 155.61 channel and heard nothing. Might need to contact Bearcat

At this point you probably feel as though you’ve wasted hundreds of dollars.

Maybe take your old scanner and see if you hear the digital noise and put the 536 on channel/frequency/channel and see what it displays.

I’m thinking encryption still.

Didn't take long
Old one is making noise every now and then and new one is silent. Both set on 155.610 only

Note, also not getting anything on 155.0025 and have tried but not able to verify they are using it

In another thread, another mentions about baud rate differences

One thought, move the 536 scanner to a different place in your house or if you have an outside power outlet, take it outside. There may be a very large object or electrical device directly between your scanner and the transmit tower for the Burkesville Pd.

Also go into the RR database and click on the call sign for the Burkesville PD and it will bring up a map that shows you where the transmit tower is located, thus move the scanner to that side of your house.

Thanks, and have done that just trying to watch closer. Moved it across the room so its next to me and same issue.

The RR database says the police transmitter it is only a 40 watt transmitter which is not very strong. Is there somebody you know that lives near where the transmitter is located and thus you go much closer to the tower to see if that helps? The Burkesville Fire uses a 110 watt transmitter and the State Police use both 100 watt and 300 watt transmitters.

Baud rate won’t matter in this case, the 536 will auto-sense it.

Anything on the display on the 536?
Nothing, that I could see different

Been trying to give more time before answering to make sure I'm not missing something.
I did mess up and the old scanner was not making noise on the channel, just thought it was. Short answer is I tried eariler to change locations and forgot I did that.

In short neither is hearing on 155.610 and the old one use to
Maybe they changed frequencies, don't know, but that still doesn't explain 155.0025 other then they may not be using it.

I plan to contact Sheriff's Dept Monday and ask questions

Im about 12 miles from the tower and on top of a hill, so basically a straight shot

On the digital side? Sounds like a weak signal situation or maybe partial encryption.

Looks like its working Yah
hiegtx I didn't fully understand what you were trying to tell me, sorry about that. Said to make sure Monitor and Download was marker ON. So I selected ON where it was highlighted which left Monitor OFF

I then selected Cumberland line below which allowed me to change it

Thanks to all

If you click on the Monitor column by the list, and set it to "On", that will also flip the Download setting to On.
When you write to the scanner, it will also download the list, & also set it to be monitored. Writing to the scanner from Sentinel also pushes any changes to your Profile, as well as updating the main database (if the version in Sentinel is newer that what is currently loaded in the scanner.

The license that links to the 155.0025 was originally issued to the county back in 2015. However, the license was modified last October ( in 2021) to add the 155.0025, as well as license it to use NXDN. So, they may not be using it yet, but might at some time later

Downloaded file, imported and saved to scanner - Scanner now shows

Quick Save System
Quick Save Department
Scanning...

Haven't heard anything
The Quick Save system & department would be created if you manually entered a frequency (like the suggested "Channel, (Frequency), Channel" that Kevin suggested multiple posts ago, but instead of hitting Channel the second tome, the E (Enter) key was pressed instead.

If you've successfully downloaded the list I created, then if you access the Set Scan Selection from the Menu, the list should be displayed.

If the list is on the scanner, you should see it listed.
If you highlight (select) the list, then pressing the E key will toggle it between 'On', and 'Off' (Off being it is on the scanner, but not currently selected to be scanned.

Could be either, of course.

One of the counties that I monitor when visiting friends about 100 miles west of me tends to use partial encryption. The dispatcher is in the clear most of the time, but the S.O. deputies in the field are using encryption.

You might try parking both scanners on 155.61 (set the channel to Hold).

If you are hearing digital noise on the other scanner, if the transmission is encrypted, the 536HP should be silent, but if the signal is strong enough for reception, you should see ENC on the 536HPs display, even though you are not hearing anything.

Have both running and only heard 2 calls. Old noise and 536 did hear it all "352 Burkesville 10-8" along with Dispatch time call. There usually not much on Sunday mornings. When it comes up it shows custom something and not B'ville

Went to settings and turned off the national data base so its just using the saved list.

I think you have some insight maybe. This AM the clouds were low and I picked up some talk. Later there were no clods and haven't heard a word from old or new scanner. Rain was coming in and heavy clouds and started hearing B'ville again. Being a 536 I could plug it into the truck and get closer to town. Being KY not allowed to listen to police Freq in a moving car. All this said, if the old makes noise I can hear talk on the new

I ran dsd on this overnight. All traffic was NXDN96, 12.5, narrow. RAN 1 in the clear

Does it make a difference if my saved list has audio option as Ran 0 instead of 1 ?
