I was demo'ng my 536HP running the engineering app and VLC to my brother today when the app stopped responding. It basically required a pc reboot as my PC often will not let you launch a taskmgr or bring the one up from the system tray. An annoying problem with both winxp and 7 that I have been unable to find a solution for. So after the reboot I noticed neither the app or the vlc would reconnect.
When I got in front of the scanner I tried to power cycle it and turning the power off had no result. The screen just stayed were it was. I ended up pulling the power. After that everything seems to be ok. I'm able to re-connect and the app an vlc are not functioning again. Very strange. First time this has happened.
I understand that these are early release, or non-release softwares but I hope this is not something that is going to be an ongoing problem when the apps are released. The whole idea is to use the apps distant from the radio so doing the equivalent of a blackberry battery pull is not really a viable option. It just so happens that I was demo'ng in my office which is connected to my home via VPN so I was unable to fix the problem until I returned home. Again, at this point in the game, I have no great expectation of stability and it was nice of UPMAN to make the app available for us to play. I'm just hoping that the future releases will be stable and we won't be calling home to power cycle the radio on a regular basis.
