Saw this the other day. Am I missing something in the database or is this just a case of the user outfitting his radio with the wrong antenna? IMG_4863.jpeg

Thats the officer hating the all band antenna, and putting the stubby on there..lapd still on uhf for now.
La Sheriff is a hybrid system of 700 and uhf, with the analog dispatch channels still on uhf. That will change soon when they switch the dispatch channels to digital trunked, then the whole system is 700/uhf hybrid.

I saw an XTS5000 that wasn't working. They broke the antenna and replaced it with a stubby from a CP200d. "But it fits OK" :)

If the radio is UHF and that's the 7/8 stubby. How much do you think that is affecting the radio operating for this officer?

Probably not as much as you think. With the signal saturation of the simulcast and the number of voted receivers, coupled with the fact that the antenna is probably resonant at 480/500 to a degree, to the lay user, there's probably little difference.

Where I work, doing this is a big no-no. And I do catch people doing it. Only they are doing it with VHF radios, which I guarantee is bothering the radio, let alone coverage. Good thing I'm in a position to do something about it. They always stop when I tell them that it's damaging the radio, and that if it did work, wouldn't we be doing it already for everyone?

@monitor142, any thoughts?
