Analyze This

Yes I noticed that too. Nothing on Analyze, I would have thought the first firmware update would have added Analyze but it didn't. Then Paul said a second firmware was coming in March and I figured ok Analyze will be included. No second firmware was ever released. Now they release a Beta for all HP-1 users. It's a bad sign that they can't focus on anything and complete it before moving on.

The RR Wiki lists Analyze maybe that will disappear long before it is released. Patience for an announced feature is a month or two, Silence is golden unless you paid money for something that shows no sign of release.

Les
Have you noticed that there has not been any mentions of the Analyzer since the original x36HP announcement? I did a forums search. We've gotten small updates on the Siren App and the Wi-Fi dongle but no Analyzer questions have ever been answered that I can see. Not even a status update on the progress. Makes me wonder if it was just an idea during the release and never something that was hard coded for beta release for testers. You figured in 7 months they would have released this feature since it doesn't need the dongle. Just an observation.

I think this is why they went back to working on the HP-1. They realized there was more then they thought of originally to do and had to go back and redo things to see if they can get it to transfer over to the new NON touch screen (X36 scanners).

This is why I stated when these scanner's were announced that it SUCKED they went away from a touch screen and would have issues transforming options over to the X36 scanners.

It is really funny how we do not get anything information wise on this feature which is yet still being sold as coming with the scanner(s) to date. But it is OK, people come here and know they are buying defunct items from Undone.

That is what makes this situation so frustrating!

Paul doesn't want to provide a hard date for completion because Uniden is so confused with how to fix the performance issues, even he doesn't have a clue on a release date. He can only make general statements that really don't give the current customers any real sense of satisfaction. So as a result, Paul stays silent.

Paul doesn't answer, Uniden customer service doesn't say anything except send the unit in to a service center. And Uniden seems to not want to discuss the product at all. I just want to swap it for at least a 996XT or HP1. I spent 600 bucks on a piece of junk and no one can tell me anything, If I had known this was going to be the outcome I'd have purchased the 436 and been on my way. but no, i paid an extra hundred bucks for a software that doesn't exist - I feel it was complete deceptive marking.

At least Radio Shack has answers .....

So...Riddle me this..

If one was not needing the WiFi option or Smartphone apps, would this be a radio worth getting?...

Im looking at adding another radio,a handheld so it would be the 436..but I have no use for WiFi or
the android/Iphone options...I have a psr800 but hate not having a full keypad to punch up freq's on the fly...So im starting to push hard to let go of the 800 and go Uniden..

So my Q is this,IF the X36's were not advertised for teh WiFi or Siren app, would it be a good radio?

Even without WiFi option or Smartphone app I still find the 436 somewhat limited but a decent radio, especially over the 536. Once it gets the analyzer function and hopefully they add CC Only back into the search function, then it would be a very nice radio. The larger display provides pretty decent information. It would be nice to see the frequencies displayed. Seeing I have no way to search for new systems via CC Only Search mode or Analyzer Mode I find myself bringing my 396XT with me all the time when I go out of town. The 436 is great if you already know the systems, control channels or frequencies, plus your not limited to 500 TG. The discovery mode and record capabilities are great for a portable. But if your into searching for new freqs or want an easier method of adding frequencies I find my 396XT can't be beat but you can direct enter with the 436.

I have no use for the app / wifi really. The unit is one of the best I have had. I love the national database and the form factor.

Gentlemen, let's remember that all Buy, Trade and Sell must be conducted in the RadioReference Classifieds forums. I've deleted a couple of messages that violated this policy.

Thats the info I was hoping for,Im new to Uniden coming from GRE..But Im liking the 396 and 996 XT's along with my recently acquired BC15X more and more.On the fence about the 800,I may keep it as a relic..But a 436 is going to be in the near future..Thanks for the reply WISE..

With all the little bugs that people have reported, my question is why haven't we been seeing more firmware updates? How hard is it to fix 1 or 2 things and push out a new firmware, that is the point of having a radio that is easily upgrade-able with a simple push. I would rather have smaller fixes every month or so, rather than have to wait 6-12 months for a big firmware push.

This is a perfect example of what happens when a company has too much power and does not care about the customers..

I guarantee someone in Tokyo cares about their bottom line though and I'm afraid that bottom line (in the Uniden scanner section at least) is likely to be in for some long term butt hurt over this debacle.

At this point, I believe there is potential for the x36HP remediation costs to exceed any margins that Uniden stood to make from all the sales of the units for the next few years, while the negative feedback loop of comments in these forums and poor product reviews in other places is guaranteed to impact on those sales anyway. If, hypothetically speaking, legal action were to occur as well, the potential costs for Uniden would go ballistic.

At what point does Tokyo just kill off the product entirely, turning those existing units already sold into unsupported orphans?

Even if Uniden released a firmware update that fixed all the problems this time tomorrow, there has been considerable erosion of trust in their scanner products from consumers and most likely even their dealer network. This will inevitably impact on initial sales of future product releases too.

Sadly, I can't see any possible way that this is going to end well for the company or the scanner hobby in general.
