What DTRS control channels are you using?

Armed bank robbery in FTC currently with perimeter being set up etc, might make for some good listening.

Is there a possibility that there is a cell phone tower near your home? When I am mobile and I get close to some of the cell phone sites around the area I will lose both DTRS and EDACS signals. Certain areas that I travel in on a regular basis I know that from point "A" to point "B" I will lose radio traffic or at least have troubles hearing what comes through the cell phone interference.

As for your question about a "booster", GRE makes an amplifier with a variable gain control from 0-20 dB. Here is a link to their site: http://www.greamerica.com/scanner.html

It is hard to listen to most Denver metro area TRS's up here in FTC... A couple of reasons are, not high enough, and distance... If you have a super high gain beam antenna, like a 15+ element yagi, you might be able to hear Denver Edacs in FTC. I was able to do this a couple of years ago with the same setup, on the West side of Fort Collins... The major thing is location, location , location... When I lived in Wellington (13 miles North of Fort Collins) I could hear all metro agencies with a "rubber duck"! Wellington is at a mile high though as well as Denver. Line of site is key with this band as you said. Most of FTC is 5000' to 5100', 180ft can make a huge difference with 800Mhz. If you would like a good antenna source PM me and I can help you with that.

Also, as mentioned in other threads, Denver Edacs signal is "beamed" (directional) into the city of Denver, so listening up here becomes a tricky, but a definately possible task....

lockoutspecialist, next time you go up North toward Wellington, give a listen to Denver. You will start to pull them in just North of the Budweiser plant on I-25. Their system is very strong, again you just have to be in the right place with the right equipment.

Thanks for your help. Did some price checking on antennas. Would hate to spent big bucks on antenna. Then I would Interest in edacs, because then I would miss the local stuff. Drove by PVH on Lemay got Aurora Westminster Denver Arvada. May be a good place move someday.

You would be surprised on what you can find out there for cheaper that you think. The 15 element 800Mhz yagi that I purchased a while back was only $60, that is very cheap for that size of antenna. You could also build one for cheap. There are many options for you if you desire to listen to the metro area....

You are probably right.... Fort Collins varies so much in elevation, take a GPS out for a drive sometime, in places it can go from 5000' up to 5150' and higher in a mile. The best place to be is a place like Wellington as I said. A wide open area that is mostly 5250' or greater...

You've got the idea, but 2.4Ghz is too high in freq. Try these (http://www.comtelcoantennas.com/yagi_800_900_mhz.htm) I know that most are higher in price than I said, but do some searching. I got mine from a local ham fest used.
