Even the MkIII; has anyone heard any rumors that AOR is working on a newer model of handheld receiver/scanner, perhaps with one or more digital modes? Or trunking? Or does AOR just not dabble in trunking?

So far it hasn't done anything with trunking, and I kinda doubt they will get into it anytime soon. You really would be better off with separate receivers for HF and trunking - it's a much more flexible way to go, and performance would likely be better too

I'm not arguing that...

but the 8200 doesn't only cover HF, and it does scan... so *they* put themselves in that market, not me. I like the ergonomics of the 8200 a fair bit better than the 396XT, frex, at least from pictures.

At the moment, it seems like Pinellas County's still trunking analog, but of course, that only helps the 8200 so much. :)

For me, the HF and FMB type stuff is the add-on, not the scanning, so I guess the 396 is my target.
