Larger area but I am having some trouble understanding how to seperate different groups. I may only want to scan certain areas and I dont understand how to do that.

why not use freescan & your premium Membership & import what you want from the RRDB yourself ?

Before he can get to that stage, he needs to take a little extra time and read up on his model of scanner, and the multiple functions and how to make it work for his needs. Once he is comfortable with the working of that scanner, and knows how to get up various groupings of freqs/trs's/tg's etc to his tastes, then he will be able to do pretty much anything on his own.
