I'm listening to AAA Ambulance service on 154.2725 in Hattiesburg. But I'm only hearing the dispatch communication and nothing from the units. Why would that be. What am I missing?

They could be using a Duplex system where transmitting is done on one freq and receive is on another but there is no mention of that on the county page. Southeast MS Air Ambulance District (Mississippi) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Another possibility is depending on what antenna you have, and where its located, you might not pick up the ambulances. I have vhf by me and only receive the units if they are close as I do not have an antenna tuned specifically for the vhf band.

I'm on the west side of town and only have a telescopic that came with the scanner. Haven't tried any other antennas yet to see if something is going on there or not. I also haven't checked to see if it is happening on any of my other scanners. Just my non digital.

Thanks for the info.

They use repeaters, so unless they have begun encrypting the mobiles and HT's you should hear both sides. Or, AAA now are on MSWIN, and the VHF is for tone out/dispatching only. Only other thing I can think of is that they now use the MDT's for all status replies. One of my best friend's daughter works for AAA out of McComb, I can try to reach out and see if she will reply.

True, but
And depending on what scanner, some make the enc sounds and some block them.
On the Uniden Digitals, if you watch the display, you will see enc flash a second or so before it auto passes to the next unencrypted transmissions. If your running the TRX's from Whistler, you can have it do an tone on encrypted audio.

Must be due to the Uniden software. I run a Whistler and hear both side of the traffic 24/7 on that channel. I'm speaking of the MSWIN Channel. The VHF High Band frequencies are repeater output. Unless you happen to have the input frequencies entered and are in one of the 4 repeater areas.

This was for AAA only. I'm not interested in their local stuff.

Thanks

AAA is all 60xxx, 30xxx is Covington local. So, 60320 through maybe 60325? Dispatches, Tactical if any, and events if any. Possibly Admin TGs? Unsure if they would use separate TG for ALS and BLS or just one primary for it all.

Not sure what you mean by our "local stuff".

@INDY72 is correct on the TG numbering schemes.. 30738 is assigned/owned by Covington County.. In reality it has nothing to do with AAA other than us dispatching them. It's their TG.
