To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I come back with conclusions after experiencing the new Radtel firmware for Abbree 2520. For AR-2520 version V1 (without GPS) the firmware does not work. For AR-2520 version V2 (with GPS) the firmware is perfectly compatible, improves the graphic interface and menus, solves several bugs such as blocking on scanning, channel organization or power on off mode. Unfortunately, there is no improvement in airband reception. We are waiting for a firmware update that will solve this as well.

After using this Radtel RT firmware update for a month on my Abbree 2520, I must say it is an improvement but!
There is this problem with stronger signals, at least in my case. If someone is emitting on a close-by frequency, like PMR CH12 and my station is set to receive on CH 6, I hear constant squelch opening and noise, no matter which channel is emitting around. If a signal is strong, I get squelch opened and that horrible noise and it's unbearable. It's like its bandwidth of reception is set too wide to something around 192000khz or I don't know but it is a big mess up....

That is the case with almost every single Cheap Chinese Radio. The front ends are wide open and you get a ton of interference from strong or close by signals. Not a lot you can do about that, aside from buying a different radio.

I also have the radtel firmware on my abbree 2520. I must say the one feature that i do like is the radio turning on at vehicle start. The abbree didnt do that, i had to manually turn it on.
My biggest beef with both is that you cant import or export cvs files. With 999 channels this is a must!

You are right, bandwidth reception is set too wide that makes the front end overload most of the times. Any idea how to fix this?

My review after using Radtel RT-20M firmware on Abbree AR 2520.
Old CPS does not work anymore nor the Tuning Tool provided in this forum.
Update has made lots of improvement but still there are overloading issues. Airband needs improvement as strong signals gets voice distorted but if you're in parking garage or under some structure which makes signals weak, you will get clear voice on Airband.

Overloading issue is concerned if you are listening on frequency 172.650, and some nearby radio starts TX on 172.850 you will get constant squelch and noise. This much wide bandwidth reception makes the radio front overload most of the time when you are moving in urban city area.

Any idea on how to adjust bandwidth reception?

unfortunately you have to use the radtel CPS , the save formats are different mores the pity. They have different file extensions and a simple rename doesnt work . slowly bit by bit i am having to manually put into radtel format all the channels i had in abbree format. if only you could export and import cvs files

One more thing i noticed when i updated Abbree to RT-20 firmware is that the station becomes slow in terms of procesing commands.
If someone is talking or if there is noise (RX is on) if i press PTT button, station goes wild and emits - im guessing a 1750tone instead of carier signal...and that is a big problem.... Waiting for Firmware update and i hope theyll fix that.
And a question from me for someone with more XP...Is there a way to revert to old firmware?
Just for sports.
