• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I noticed that a short press of the scan button would turn QT on and off (QT would disappear from the screen) and then I could hear audio which seems to make sense...then I reprogrammed the radio and I cannot get QT back off

Trial and error for the win. I can reproduce the issue and the partial fix now. Any time I program the radio through CHIRP I get that QT symbol on all channels. Then I go into R-CTC, I see that it is OFF--I set it to OFF anyway and then the QT icon disappears and I can hear the freq without using the monitor function. I don't actually have a windows device for the manufacturer programming software but I expect I'd have better luck with that.

Yep, I have learned about CHIRP developer options and can see in the browser that for the channels I haven't changed rxtone should be all 0s for off, but instead is all 1s (despite R-CTC appearing "OFF" from the radio in both cases).

programming with chirp and woxsun messes the dt code setting, they show off but have to be re turned off in radio menu dtc etc ... i have found the wlt2000 software works a treat without issues :).
your welcome

OK, so I had to use the Wouxun kguv8D programming software, repetors are ok, just entered the tone and it's done, but all the 446PMR band is always like the SQL was off... It's always receiving although no ones talking.
Am I missing something?
By the way it is possible to reset the radio to factory settings, just following the instructions on the youtube for the Wouxun KGUV8Dabb.jpg

Hi! First time poster but I think I have this one cracked. I also programmed this with CHIRP set for Wouxun KG-UV8D and also could not get even NOAA audio despite the LCD clearly showing reception. For me the issue was that the "PF2" setting (which programs the button below the PTT button) was set to "DISABLE;" I had not touched that setting prior. I factory reset the radio (and then set it back to English) and found that this button was set to "MONI" (apparently for "monitor"). I re-uploaded my CHIRP config with all the channels, set PF2 back to MONI and now after I start the radio *and* hit that PF2 button I can hear a signal (imagine that). FWIW there is also a STYLE setting that lets you change the theme on the LCD. I'm still not sure what the deal with the compass view is and I definitely have a different firmware than what's described in my v1.0 manual but for the price I think this thing is pretty neat and I kind of like that it's a bit of a puzzle.
Compass view (if you have two handhelds), will allow each one to see the others position.

On mine you press the right arrow key, when the keypad is unlocked. Make sure you have the gps turned in the settings menu.

Hi, Guys. New here, I followed the tutorial on programming but ended up with programed radio that doesn't receive both frequencies. Any clue what I did wrong?

I was able to find and use the WLT2000 software. Programming the radio was no issue but I do have the following questions:
1- What is that salamander looking image on the display?
2- How is the DUAL WATCH turned on an off. The Manual says Menu Selection 7 but on my radio that is VOX.
3- The User Manual lists 32 Menu Selections. My radio has 52! Is there an updated manual or has anyone sussed out the other settings? Some of the abbreviations used mean nothing to me.

As of yet I have found no way of disabling the dual watch, you will just have to live with it.

I also had the same problem receive even though the screen displayed that their was a signal, almost as if their was a tone set. Here is the solution I found : you have to re select the R-CTS to OFF (menu option 15) in the menu then you will receive signals as normal. Obviously some sort of bug in the firmware.

I have also noticed menu numbers 50 and 51 are missing
On my unit option 50 toggles the GPS, and 51 is the reset to factory settings
The Ar-f8 is available from many places online and each has a different ui
