Absolute beginner, need help.

Evening, I just bought a Radio Shack Pro-28 from eBay, and I have no idea how to use it. I have searched through all the bands available, and have only found static, I must be doing something wrong.

Can anyone link me to a page explaining how to use my scanner? The manual that came with it wasn't all that informative. Anyone know how I can at least hear one radio broadcast, just to reassure me? It's been frustrating me all day, damn thing.

Apparently I have to program frequencies into the channel memory, but I'm not sure how to do that to be honest.

P.S I'm located in the UK, if that helps at all.

I have the manual, but I tried what it says and all I can hear is static. I tried to monitor the local airport approach, about 30 miles from my location. I programmed the frequency (118.575) into the channel memory and I just get the hissing sound, I've tried a whole lot of other local frequencies with the same result. I tried playing with the squelch, to no avail.

Try your local National Weather service Frequency........If that dont work something is wrong with the radio.

You may want to try a headset and see if it is the speaker that is bad.............

Tried all local weather frequencies, no luck. I'll keep trying, I'll try plugging the speakers in.
