If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Subscribers on Motorola radios have no issues, this is strictly a Unication G4 issue. It is presistent on the old hardware and even worse when tested on new g4 stock units. I have wondered if it was an issue with hardware keeping up with decoding as the intermitant nature and that the fact that it will decode flawlessly sometimes even with a -97 signal or higher. Unication seems to have very few known users using ADP encryption and really wanted us to move to change to new encryption type but that is not feasible.
Is there any way to force the G4 into ADP only? Perhaps the firmware is trying to decide between clear or coded and is forcing a stream of errors.

By spike I meant that when you get into the -90 and up into -110 range
If the Unication isn't decoding/decrypting at -110, it's a Unication issue. -110dBm isn't a great signal and FEC should be putting it all back together, with little to no packet loss.

-80 to -100 is not terrible either. I get full AES Decryption on my XTS2500.

I'd open a support ticket with Unication.

Been working with Unication support for over two months now and keep coming up with nothing. My signal jumps to mid -90s and it fails a lot. Support actually said a -87 was low and we needed to improve signal. The system was designed for the radios and they all work without any issues so not not much changing on the signal strength. I continue to push support on issues and I think they have given up on figuring out ADP. Glad I am not the only one to see this.

How are you measuring the signal strength? Are you inside a building or outside? I assume the signal measured coincides with the failures?

Inside building in a window facing tower. We see the signal strength go down when the audio is garbled and it is failing to decrypt correctly.

Did you try this???
No sure how ro force it any more than it is. Paged only has a single ADP key loaded and only one talkgroup in play and it is ADP encrypted. That talkgroup is in a system and it has that key selected. Very few options as far as setup in the pager.

1) Does that building have a Bi-directional amplifier system?
2) What floor are you on when testing at the window?
3) Are you reading signal strength from the pager directly or another instrument?

No in building amplifiers. Ground floor.
Directly from the pager diagnostics screen. This is the same method I have been doing for Unication support as they requiree to send videos showing the pager signal strength on the screen.

If there is any option to force it to ignore clear communications it would be an interesting test as the clear/coded bits possibly do not have same level of error correction/recovery as the encryption itself.

OK can you or have you tried a different side of the building to rule out a location problem which could be specific to the simulcast or some other interfere?

We have tested this using 2 pagers side by side. One pager running the encrypted talkgroup and the other running a clear talkgroup. These talkgroups are patched at the dispatch console and should provide identical audio. The clear talkgroup pager passes the audio without issue on same signal strength. It was presented to Unication with this exact scenario with a video to show the audio difference. I still believe this is a bug with ADP encryption but support seems to think I am one of very few running ADP encryption.

Sounds like you have eliminated a lot of possibilities. Sad that they, Unification, have not treated this with urgency. Sounds like they have a problem with either code detection or error correction. They should be able to duplicate this on a test bench. Is there a "proper code detect" option in the programming? Maybe turn it off.

Can you advise if the encryption is Call Based or Channel Knob Based. The latter would be Secure "strapped" and the former would be Secure/Clear detected on the fly.

What version of PPS is this you are showing? I am using V0.4.0.41 and on some custom firmware from support in the v2.04 range and I am not seeing the same settings. To get any support they require me to be using latest PPS and new firmware.

I would also love to see if anyone using AES has issues as we are trying to develop a plan to see if we can deploy AES just for pagers and leave the radios on ADP as they do not support AES. I am wondering if the pager uses a different method to decode AES versus ADP and that is why Unication is struggling with this. I do know the Unication engineers questioned why we are not using AES but that is a million dollar purchasing decision that was made long ago for the radios. Aggravated that according to sales ADP is acceptable but in practice it has not been safe and functional to use.
