I'm sure I do, just watch when you drive those luggage carts around so you don't hit us as we're responding to those "airline emergencies"...

lol wow ok so you're airport FD or special police or something along those lines? Thats too funny..

But seriously you must think we're a bunch of knuckleheads with all the grab-assing that goes on over the radio..

I might have to hit you up for some airport freqs because I may start taking my scanner to work too.

I just got started on it.. haven't gotten anything exciting like that yet.. I'm actually having a problem right now though if anyone has the answer to it.. For some unforseen reason, i'm no longer receiving.. not sure why.. I periodicaly unplug the audio from my scanner just to veryfy that there are blits of data being received, but i'm no longer getting them on screen with the program.. what's going on? It just sorta stopped all by it self at some point...

If you're listening to ACARS make sure your squelch is to the LEFT all the way, IE make sure the your squelch is off so that you hear a constant static. Otherwise your squelch will cut out the first part of the "message" and ACARSD won't be able to decode it.

Are you referring to the UHF freqs being used up in the air? I know they usually have a repeater for every airlines at the airport but I've never seen any handhelds used on the planes (and it would have to be simplex anyway). Please specify....

They're referring to airline company frequencies in the AM mode aircraft band, usually from 128.825 through 132.000 MHz. Do a search in this range and you will find all kinds of aircraft, usually flights talking to their base on the ground as there approaching an airport.

For those of you in the NY/NJ area I posted a list of company freqs in JFK/LGA/NWK area on the Grove website under NY/Aeronautical(which is free). It was done a while back but most freqs are still active, with the exception of some bankrupt airlines. Most major company freqs is in the 128-132Mhz range. Some flying schools/FBO use 122-123Mhz. These freqs use transmitters that are over 5Watts are are easy to hear. On the UHF region 460-465Mhz NFM they use handhelds that are under 5 watts making them hard to hear unless you are within the area. These are used by gate, mechanics, baggage personnel, mainly by supervisors, so don't expect constant activity. JetBlue has started using the expanded 136-138Mhz region for company messages on 136.6

Ok, so I've always wondered.. What all goes on on Airline Company frequencies? I've seen them listed, and never known what they were, what they were for, or what was said on them. Are they very chatty?

They are also the 'front line' for issues on terrorism. For folks who don't remember the flying imans, here is some background:
http://bluestarchronicles.com/2006/12/08/dennis-miller-explains-things-to-the-flying-imans/

I had an interesting experience where I heard an airline pilot was expressing 'concern' regarding some unruly Muslim passengers. He was discussing the situation on these 'company frequencies'. So my general observation is that before the event becomes an 'ATC' event, the pilot is discussing it with his 'company'.

On the more mundane side, you'll hear announcements for 'UMs' (Unacompanied minors), wheel chairs, lavatory service and other gate services on arrival.
