I’m not sure where you live has anything to do with 1) whether this sort of thing has any implications for moving to encryption nor 2) whether encryption in any way stops someone who has managed to get their hands on a radio with the keys.

The radio used was a old LPE 200 exact with pro voice.

No keys were stolen, no radio lost.

Bernalillo public safety and fire utilize edacs and edacs pro voice. Anyone can obtain a old LPE 200 or variety after and passive monitor a edacs system with proper software and know how on a LPE 200.

As for securing it has been a debated topic in that region with public safety persons.

Some are for it some arent.

If they used it the fact is he wouldn't hear anything and while still appearing to have radio in his impersonation duties for looks a lot can be fooled by audio.

The concern some have is this may tilt the decisions due to the attention locally it got and eyes which caught onto it with the coming jump on a sub system of the NMSP 700 which NMSP has made it clear to others in LE, Fire Services to OEM they don't want anyone hearing them.

One thing to remember is Lea county sends a lot of its hardware and installs up to Albuquerque on initial install with contractors.

Discussions do occur between those driving new units about to get outfitted with the laptops and radio equipment up in Albuquerque. With Lea after a few incidents the decision was made.

Without a doubt this has made some change their opinion on the matter regardless if one has something for looks it is the audio they are concerned with.

One thing to remember Las Cruces, Hobbs, Albuquerque tend to follow same vendor and got on edacs about same time.

Hobbs, and Albuquerque at time opted for ESK as it was marketed nothing could track it but nobody told them anyone could buy a LPE 200 and monitor away. The mindset then was lights out and I know in loop the mindset still exists in few around up there.

If you were to talk to The police chief for Albuquerque I bet his mind has already been made up before all of these incidents went down and that will continue with people using radios for good and bad purposes. Federal funding is provided to make sure all radios are P25 compliant now and the use of Encryption will be used. This city and county is a HOT bed for crime and police want "officer safety". Its all horse crap but this is how it is anymore. Back in the day they went EDACS ESK digital because at the time they knew nobody could listen. Well the word is out and scanner can decode it and streaming audio, as well as buying used equipment on Flee Bay with some programming software has enabled people to program commerical grade radios. As everybody knows I am no fan for Big "E" but the writing is all over the wall.

Its just a part of the package when Big M comes in and sells the deal. I bet PD will all go E and fire will stay open. That's the new normal these days. All of these cities and counties and radio comm people just implement it now. Security and Safety is the buzz word in the tech world to make these radios work now.

Here's a link to the video of this incident.

The badge was actually current I'm told.

The radio in question was a mobile version of the LPE200.

So far a buddy up there tells me he may have got it offline but the badge may have been stolen at one point from a deputy.

The man in question is a security guard for a Company called ACP.

I'm also told he is a or was member here but I wasn't told a name of the user.

"This screams whacker"

Yes, it does, at least he was truthful about that. Hopefully a mental health evaluation is in the works for Mr. Brenden Wysynski.
