Hfflunki:
I use several loops. My main one is a box crate loop I made from one of those plastic 'milk crates' you get at a department store.
Wrap about 23-25 turns of wire around it, attach each end of the looped wire to a 365 pf variable capacitor, and it works well (I just set it next to my radio -- small radios like the Sony SRF-59 or a walkman I just set inside it). I also have a Radio Shack loop and a Select-A-Tenna.
All three work very well for me -- the box crate loop has a bit more gain because it's bigger in area, but the others seem to hear most everything I hear with the box crate loop.
I haven't tried phasing or anything like that. The most creative I get with loops is placing them farther away from some of my radios (a walkman, and a DX-350A) when I want to enhance selectivity.
With my other radios (SR1, PR-D5, boombox) the selectivity's generally good enough I don't need to do that.
