As I suspected, those were impressive DXs:)
all the more frustrating for me as I have yet to get further east than Wyoming. My dream is to hear a midwest station just once. I need to give this Wellbrook a good go of it in MW but have been busy nights here lately.

To hfflunki-nice DXs there too!

Should be quite doable. Even east coast. Check the logs of other top west coast DXers and see when they hear NYC. Are there any FREE logs on the web anymore??

Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but I don't see anyone from the US reporting coast to coast medium wave DX, but California to the Midwest should certainly be possible given the right conditions, and a lot of patience. I think Hawaii would be a nice target from San Fran during sunrise, after the powerhouses to Ridge's east fade away. Work the grayline to your advantage..

Huh you would think-but during all the MW DXing I did here I never got anything further. You know me-if I did, you'd see a vid:D
been spending more time away from radio room. As winter gets closer if I get time I will try some more. 1230-1270 are the most open with no dominant signals- if I sit on one in that area for a bit there is where I'll land one..

You need some high power targets, and you're not going to find them between 1230 and 1270.

What I would do, is pick some targets from this list, arrange your loops or whatever to improve your chances, then record over night. Go back over the recording at your leisure. That way you're not burning the midnight oil and you've got a cool recording as well. I've gotten my best Mexican logs that way.

Ridgescan, A lot of the catches I've gotten from the Midwest and Great Plains states I had to listen underneath the dominant station. I heard WSCR Chicago underneath local-strength KBOI on 670 khz that way.

You could try for WCCO on 830. You may have to listen for it underneath KNCO. Sometimes WCCO is audible here in the NW. They seem to have frequent IDs.

If you can null out KSJX, you may be able to catch KSTP's ESPN programming in the null. They are heard here in the NW fairly often.

WWL 870 isn't in the Midwest but you may be able to hear it behind the station in Las Vegas. Whenever I've heard it it was underneath KFLD Tri-Cities (which is right in the way of the signal path).

1120 KMOX is audible in the NW frequently on winter nights -- here it competes with KPNW Eugene. I have to listen for it behind KPNW and KANN Utah, but it can be IDed either with Missouri spots or programming.

The Tejano station on 1700 (KKLF) is in Texas. Here in the NW it can often be heard behind XEPE. It's the only music on 1700 I'm aware of.

Just some ideas.

Flashback 2001. 1060khz XEEP Radio Education Mexico City 150 kilowatt blowtorch back when I was heavy into chasing DX. Listen at the beginning when he says (quickly in Spanish) "Radio Education 1060am". I used an Icom R71a and phased a low random wire against a 50 foot vertical wire in a pine tree. That combo worked great, I could phase out the high angle short skip and hear the long distance low angle stuff well. The ONLY time I've heard "Figaro" sung on the AM broadcast band. Don't think that's Pavarotti, but what do I know. Enjoy!

Glad to be of some help. Hope one of the tips works for you.

Last couple of nights I've been hearing the same stations on each channel... although KTNN 660 has been pounding in the last two nights, even overriding CFFR Calgary at times. Some guys on a few other websites have been saying the conditions seem semi-auroral, but aside from KTNN, I haven't had much coming in from the south that's out of the ordinary. About three early mornings ago KSTE was dominating 650, almost local quality at times during fadeups -- that is unusual.

Last night I heard KHTS 1220 Santa Clarita, California during their music hour. Heard two partial IDs and the music matched their stream. I usually hear nothing on 1220 except Oregon religious station KPJC. And when I say nothing, I mean three years of DXing I've heard very little except flutter behind KPJC on the channel -- except the one time I got KDOW Palo Alto.

Last night I also heard very weak talk underneath KPJC and KHTS, which was probably KDOW, which is a business talk station.

KHTS is the first new DX station logged with the G2 + external loop. I also heard it on my other radios (Superadio and a PR-D5, both also with external loop).

Tonight I logged Radio Rebelde on 1180, mixing in with KOFI (Kalispell, MT -- often very strong here in WA), barefoot on my Sangean PRD5.

Also heard KATD 990 Pittsburg Calif., with tropical music, coming in at S4 or so during fadeups, N-S with the PRD5 and a loop. Usually I never hear them. I generally hear XECL Mexicali, weak, with their Rocola format (Spanish oldies) N-S, and often a weak CBW E-W. CBW was in fair tonight, and XECL was MIA.

Thanks. Sometimes propagation works wonders. In this case, it's hearing a station behind a station, but Rebelde actually faded to the top a couple times, very odd. I have no idea how much power they run, but I would wager it's higher than 50 KW.

The PRD5 is a newer acquisition. Very good radio. Good sensitivity (very slight edge over my SR) and excellent selectivity -- but the selectivity sort of cuts the highs, and the SR's a bit more pleasant to DX with for fidelity reasons. Seems to be o.k. on the batteries. I also like the AUX IN feature, can use it like a mini-boombox.

As per usual with a lot of radios, it's always a tradeoff -- six of one, half a dozen of the other. :)

Great DXs Bb-way to work those portables. I read up on that PR-D5 and they say it's a very good MW getter. With all my over use of the tabletop comm receivers here, I do own a little Grundig FR-200 with the power crank. That radio does a very respectable job with MW, not to mention SW off that little 2' whip. Some of these little portables can be impressive.

Some Mexico and Cuba DX

Hey guys:

Been enjoying some of the AM DX post. I'm gonna hunt for the KTNN one real hard, see if I can pull her out. Adding a Wellbrook to the shack next week so my MW DX should improve. Here's a few vids from some catches I get over here in the Tampa area. Get lots of Cuba and Mexcio and some Texas and gulf states stations.

1180 AM Radio Rebelde Artemisa Cuba - YouTube < Radio Rebelde Havana Cuba

1570 KHZ AM XERF-AM Mexico Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila - YouTube < XERF-Am Acuna Mexico

XEG-AM 1050 KHZ Monterrey, Mexico booming into Tampa Florida - YouTube < XEG-AM Monterrey Mexico

1260 AM Radio DX from Cuba Radio PROGRESO Havana Cuba - YouTube < Radio Progresso Havana Cuba

I've been seeing grainy, summerish conditions lately. Like an aurora without the benefits of stations coming in from the south. When's the DX season going to actually hit? :-(
