I finally decoded my first FT4 mode signals on the 20 meter ham band this afternoon. The frequency is 14080 kHz. I had been decoding FT8 for the last couple of years, but wow -- FT4 is twice as fast. The transmissions are half as long as FT8, so a cluster of messages appears on my screen every 7.5 seconds, rather than the usual 15. The software I'm using is WSJT-X, by the originator of these modes. I don't know if FT4 is supported by other programs as well.

Some examples from the log, which is created automatically by the software:
191016_221715 14.080 Rx FT4 -7 0.1 532 CQ NG4C FM16
191016_221715 14.080 Rx FT4 -2 0.1 939 CQ KD0UNI EN17
191016_221723 10.140 Rx FT4 -3 0.2 626 PP5DE WW1WW R-15
191016_221723 10.140 Rx FT4 -12 0.1 857 KE3GK JF2KOZ PM84
191016_221730 10.140 Rx FT4 -8 0.2 532 CQ NG4C FM16
191016_221730 10.140 Rx FT4 -3 0.1 940 CQ KD0UNI EN17
191016_221915 10.140 Rx FT4 -10 0.3 532 JA2IQV NG4C R-16
191016_221923 10.140 Rx FT4 0 -0.0 626 PP5DE WW1WW R-15
191016_221930 10.140 Rx FT4 -12 0.2 532 JA2IQV NG4C R-16
191016_221930 10.140 Rx FT4 5 0.1 940 CQ KD0UNI EN17
191016_221938 10.140 Rx FT4 -4 -0.0 626 PP5DE WW1WW R-15
191016_221945 10.140 Rx FT4 -14 0.2 532 JA2IQV NG4C 73

Most of the entries show 10.140 mHz as the frequency, but that's only because I accidentally chose that frequency in the software's dropdown box. They were all received on 14.080.

I've used it a little. When logging software catches up I'll use it more. I use HRD, LOTW, and QRZ, I think HRD is the only one I'm waiting on, and that should be soon.

I only monitor those transmissions, as I'm not a ham, but it would be nice if MultiPSK supported FT4 and FT8, so that I could use just one app for all of my digital monitoring. It does handle JT65 just fine, but the updates seem to have stopped at that point. Besides those modes, the only other ones I care to monitor are RTTY, Navtex, CW and Wefax, all supported by MultiPSK.

N3FJP and LoTW support FT4. This combo works great for me. Hope to see you on 40 meters some time. Lots of activity there during the weekend.
