Hello. I have a question I am hoping anyone on here can answer for me.

A few days ago I did a search on google just for fun to see if there was a complete list out there of Ambulance, OPP, MTO ENF, etc VR channels. And when I did I came across a list of that, but I dunno how hold it is and up to date. And it had the Ambulance VR channels on it and for most of the VR channels I entered both the TX & RX with the TX & RX tones for them but when I went to enter in the CTCSS tone for one of the channels and that channel is: 413.8375 RX with a tone of: 141.1 and 418.7875 TX with a tone of: 118.8. When I went to enter in the tone of 141.1 it didn't allow me to do it. So I did I check and found that was a INVALID CTCSS tone.

So I am just wondering if anyone on here would happen to know if 413.8375 is the right RX freq for this channel and what would be the correct tone for it. So I can enter this freq if it is correct and with the correct CTCSS TONE into my scanners, so if they ever use this channel somewhere and I am around when they use it, I will have it in my scanners all ready to go.

So let me know.

I will be waiting for any replies from anyone on here. Thanks.

You do realize, too, that those VR frequencies are limited by a certain amount of proximity to an ambulance, cruiser, MNR enforcement truck, etc, right? They can be very inconsistent in their 'coverage' (for everyone listening other than the paramedic or officer!) unless you live next to a hospital or OPP detachment.

Those are vehicular repeaters; they exist to repeat the regular radio system (in this case a Fleetnet talkgroup) to a UHF portable radio.

As for the PL tone, just use 118.8. That's what's in the database and that's what works.

Well that 118.8 is just the tone for the TRANSMIT side of that VR which is: 418.7875 and you only hear this side when they are close and are talking from their portable.

So I am looking for the CTCSS TONE for the RECEIVE side of this VR: 413.8375. This is what I want to listen to. Where you hear all of the traffic from the Ambulance talkgroup from FLEETNET.

So if anyone on here knows the CTCSS TONE for: 413.8375 I would appreciate it. So I can enter it into my scanner. Because right now I don't have a tone for it, since the ctcss tone that was on that list I found for this VR channel was INVALID and not a correct CTCSS TONE.

So if anyone can tell me. I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Last I checked the PL was the same on the input as the output. Just use 118.8, or if your scanner has it... use the tone search and see for yourself what pops up.

Ok. Because so far from what I know is that the CTCSS TONES are different on all of the VR's (TX & RX) for, OPP, MTO ENF and MNR. So if I did enter that 118.8 on the receive side, which is what I am looking for, I will not hear anything on it if they use this VR channel, since it is not the right CTCSS TONE for the RX side of this VR channel.

So that is why I am trying to find out what the CTCSS TONE is for this VR channel I am talking about, because it is not used here in my town, but maybe somewhere else.

So that is why I would like to know what the CTCSS TONE is so I can have it in my scanner all ready to go.

So if anyone does know. I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

Why do you need CTCSS at all? Do you have local interference you're dealing with?

Not here, but some places might have it, so that is why I like to have a CTCSS TONE on all of my channels I have in my scanners. So if there is interference I won't hear it.

So since no one will give me the tone for this channel I am looking for. I will just have to get it another way.

So thanks anyways everyone.

Well I don't know what to tell you. 413.8375 doesn't match what's listed for VR3 in the database (which has 413.8125). An old list I have shows 413.8375 (141.1)/418.7875(173.8) which is yet again different from what you have. Why not just enter those with no PL for starters and see if that frequency is even in use? I would trust the VR03 listed in the database over an old file floating around on Google.

Yes Forts. That list you just said, with that ambulance VR frequency and CTCSS TONE is what I found doing a search on google. And that CTCSS TONE you have with this freq: 413.8375 (141.1). That tone is wrong, not a valid CTCSS TONE. So that is why I was just asking around here if anyone knew what the correct CTCSS TONE was for this VR channel.

Yah I am pretty sure this VR channel is still in use, but not here in my town. So was just checking to see if anyone heard this VR channel before and knew the correct CTCSS TONE for it.

But since no one on here seems to know. I will just have to find it another way.

But if there is someone out there that knows let me know.

Otherwise thanks for all your help.

Maybe somebody can clarify this in ottawa. But when i listened to Ambulance on Fleetnet, and also then paging system on 149.440 when i was in ottawa. I hear Ottawa dispatch say to whichever vehicle , for example (" 4180 , switch the Charlie, vr3, or Bravo vr2). Is there designated vehicle repeater channels used in ottawa, when EMS vehicles are dispatched ? vr2, or vr3 for each call.

413.8375 RX with a tone of: 141.1 and 418.7875 TX with a tone of: 118.8. When I went to enter in the tone of 141.1 it didn't allow me to do it. So I did I check and found that was a INVALID CTCSS tone.

An obvious typo, it should be 141.3. Not sure, I think 413.8375 is an old VR channel,
have not paid much attention. Anyway, there is so much crap out there you should not rely
on...even if it was valid at one time.

Ok. Thanks DaveH. I was thinking that it was maybe 141.3. But wanted to check on here to get confirmation to see before I go and add that tone in.

And maybe you might be right about it being an old VR channel. But who knows what they might use or what they might have in their UHF portable radio's.

So thanks for that and I will give this tone a try and if they do use this VR channel somewhere and I hear them talking with that CTCSS TONE. Then I know it is right, if I see that they are talking but don't hear them, then I know that CTCSS TONE you said is wrong and will just have to put my scanner on CTCSS search and see what comes up.

So thanks again.

You could try it, but the VR frequencies in the database are more likely to be accurate.

Doesn't hurt to program it in and listen, though.

Ummm... Maybe it's just me, but I think it would make much more sense to just use the tone search to begin with. For starters if you have the wrong tone programmed in and that channel is in use you won't hear a thing and you won't know it. By using the tone search (a) you will hear any activity that is on there and (b) you can confirm the tone at the same time.

Hi Coolguy, this is Not-so-cool-Guy, literally, it's been +35C here with
humidex up to +44C the last few days. Maybe time to move north....

All VR outputs and CTCSS check with the RR database for Ottawa.
I have heard nothing on 413.8375 so far. VR input CTCSS is hard to
capture even using my rooftop antenna, but I will keep trying.

Hey Dave. When they dispatch moh vehicles in ottawa on fleetnet, the dispatch says switch to "Charlie vr3, or Bravo vr2", I assume they have the ambulance switch to a vehicle repeater (either 2, or 3) when they go on a certain call. They are the only 2, i have heard in Ottawa.

vr1 413.76250 R 110.9 PL MOHVR1 Mobile Repeater FMN EMS Dispatch
vr2 413.78750 R 127.3 PL MOHVR2 Mobile Repeater FMN EMS Dispatch
vr3 413.81250 R 114.8 PL MOHVR3 Mobile Repeater FMN EMS Dispatch

There are 5 VRs. Alpha is on VR1, Bravo on VR2, Charlie on VR3, VR4 is reserved for use with MCI channels (ie. Delta, or a TAC), and VR5 is used by the outlying areas (PR, SG&D, Leeds & Grenville).

Of course, those allocations are subject to change without notice. :)

Ok thanks bpsmicro, I thought there was designation. Even on the Page toneout on 149.440 , dispatch assigns a VR channel for everycall thats tonedout, most seem to be either Bravo vr2 or Charlie vr3. I think its to handle ambulance radio traffic in the city, much more efficiently. Whether its a call in the East end of the city, or the West end, because all they are , are for the portables, that already linked via mobile repeater to the assigned talkgroup on fleetnet for that ambulance.
