Not too good on 800 MHz. But it is about 18 years old. I don't think it was really designed for 800 MHz. Works great on other bands. I have about a 100 mile range on VHF low band, 100 mile range on VHF High band repeaters and about 50 to 75 mile range on UHF repeaters. On 800 MHz I only have about a 25 mile range on a TRS or a repeater.

I have been thinking about getting a new one. The new discones I think are designed with 800MHz.

You know I noticed something the other day...

These AMR guys down here are still carrying VHF portables. Is it possible that their VHF portable is going through a cross-band repeater onboard the ambulance?

Paramedic Joe uses his portable on 155.XXXX and it goes into a receiver on the ambulance which is tied into their GE Provoice mobile.

If this is so, I NEED TO FIND THAT VHF FREQ. They're not using 155.2200 because you know come to think of it, they were using those same exact portable units back when they were just VHF. And AMR isn't using a repeater down here so they must of had SOMETHING in the vhf range to rebroadcast their portables on 155.2200. hmmmmmmmmmmmmm :?:

None of the VHF was repeatered back when Mobile Medic had the system.....
AMR just took all of MM's old stuff for thier own.. except in Simpson County, where Emergystat took over the MM net.

The input for 155.3250 is 155.3250.....
Same for the rest of the VHF stuff.

OK, I guess I thought in the "old days" that 90% of public service agencies used repeaters.

Hey Nexus... Also try this:

159.7800 MHz.. Repeater... 157.5150 MHz Mobiles

Thats the old Acadian Ambulance Business freq.

Since Acadian is pulling out.. AMR will most likely take thier stuff too.... Thats whats happening eventually in Rankin County.

Mobile Medic, AMR and Acadian never was on repeaters.

When Mobile Medic was here they used 155.2050 then AMR came in and took over the entire gulf coast, and they had 2 frequencies, 155.2200 was covering Harrison and Hancock county, and 155.4000 for Jackson County. But then Jackson County dropped their contract and picked up Acadian, and Acadian is on 155.2350 and AMR was still in Harrison/Hancock county on 155.2200.

Several weeks ago 155.2200 went silent. It still remains silent, confirmed through a paramedic with them that they are using harrison county's edacs on provoice. Also using NOMADS computer aided dispatch with GPS. But this week I happened to notice they're still wearing VHF portables, not 800mhz rigs. So I can only assume they're using some kind of mobile radio extender, or now crossing over onto their 800 talkgroup. So If I can find that freq between their ambulance and portable unit, the chance of hearing them is great. At least in Biloxi because they fly by my house all the time.

Also- AMR is NOT legal for anything other than the Jackson/Yazoo City stuff, and the Fayette system. They run at least 3 illegal systems in MS.

The Gulf Coast stuff, Natchez Repeaters, and are not yet legal for the Rankin County system.

Here are some suspects to try....

150.790
150.795
150.775

These are good bets for mobile/portable's in the ambulance world.

Also look closely at the Jackson County Conventional liscenses on the FCC DB... If you find something AMR is using.. let me know and I will post it appropriately.

Possibly....

Most repeaters use a Fixed Control station as the input,.. though a few do not.. this appears to be one that does not....

Anyway that is the Acadian Business freq.. not an Medical freq....

Milf, dispite what you've been told ACADIAN is still running Jackson County. 155.2350 mHz simplex.

I'm not doubting the info you've been given about Acadian pulling out and AMR moving back in, but as of this date it hasn't happened yet.

Yes they are still running till contract expiration in I believe 06.....

But from what Acadian and AMR management has stated regarding the deal was that effective as of yearly contract end fiscal year 2004, Acadian was withdrawing from Rankin County, and effective immediately upon this, AMR would take over operations. This is supposed to also occur in Jackson County at contract year end fiscal year 2005. (Unless changes in the deal are made.)

We still keep "Civil Defense" alive and well around here! You don't have to look any farther than the side of my truck and our dept. logo. We even still keep a list of fallout shelters and train periodically on how to set up a fallout shelter and run it. We even have over 100 sets of the CDV-777 radiation detection kits ready to issue out. Alabama is one of just a few states that still rotates and re-calibrates their radiological instruments.

Yeah in the South.. you still have a few "Old School" EMA's that keep Civil Defense alive and well.... though most are now moving to calling it Emergency Management and dropped all the old references to CD.... I like the new Logo/Shields for Copiah County's EMA.

But its the "New School vs Old School" in a lot of places....

New College Graduates with all the new "schoolin" in thier heads that have no clue about the older systems that are sooo funny to talk to.

"Tell all the First Responders to use the HEAR chans to talk to EMS en route. -Whats HEAR????"

Orrrrr
"Tell CD 31 to switch to Hi Band. -What band is he on?- On the old MEMA Lo Band. -Lo Band? We have Lo Band?"

Yep, we have a pic in our office of the first local HEAR radio install in 1974 at Huntsville Hospital. I was looking at it in our scrapbook earlier before reading this....weird.

Our EMA alone has 1 VHF "High Band" Simplex Freq. 1 VHF "High Band" repeater, and about 15 talkgroups on a smartnet II system.....plus we use Southern Linc. Sometimes it can be confusing for us too  We do have a statewide EMA radio numbering system. I live in Madison Co. our tag numbers begin with 47, so our base is 147, director is 247, I am 347, and on and on for each employee. Same for other counties. This works for the UHF statewide system and the Linc.

We changed names to Emergency Management in 1984. We still kept the old CD logo because that is what the people at the time recognized. Now, younger folks don't remember what Civil Defense was. We get phone calls from the jail from inmates looking for a "civil defender" to represent them
