After "updating" Sentinel I noticed the ability of the 436 to properly decode the 700/800Mhz P25 simulcast systems was diminished.

Not possible. Updating the frequency database isn't going to affect the decoding algorithm.

Additionally, the volume produced by what can be decoded drops very low at times.

Different radios have different modulation settings. Some are overmodulated, and some are undermodulated. Sometimes people don't talk very loud. Having a better AGC function would help some, but there's only so much you can do with a transmission that is crappy to begin with.

If a fix to these problems is being developed, can we expect it this year, next year, 2017, etc?

If you'd bothered to read UPMan's posts, you'd know that fixes to the issues are being worked on, but some of the problems are due to third-party vendors outside of Uniden's direct control, and therefore giving any kind of firm timeline is not possible.

You can.

See: http://forums.radioreference.com/un...-very-bad-reception.html?highlight=openuniden

I saved this from an earlier post:

Go to FW - OpenUniden to find the firmware for the 436 and 536. Download the firmware you want to try. Go to "mass storage" mode on the scanner. Open the file on the SD card and open the file marked "firmware". Copy the downloaded firmware version into this folder. Then use the scanner button to turn on the scanner. The firmware will load and reboot the scanner. Now you have the older firmware version.

Thanks for the info , Im gonna give it a try.

My family and i have decided to boycott ALL products made by Uniden.

I for one love Uniden products.

Never had any issues with the multiple PC78XL cb radios I have bought over the years, The multiple 996's , 796's and 250D's All worked very well for me. I just think Uniden got in a hurry and failed to release a quality item. Hopefully lesson learned.

We've all heard of it running downhill. Bet Uniden has already paid the third party their money for the product.

Yes, they have. And have gotten several unacceptable versions of the product for their trouble.

Yawn..

Gotta admit, some of the firmware updates that could have address other issues not related to wifi, are well and truly overdue.

Ten months in and counting..

It's all becoming a bit of a joke at this point in time.

I see Upmans new avatar "1+1=?"

Well 1+1 equals 2.

My hope is Uniden is making 2 new functioning scanners so we all can trade in these buggy, sometimes non functioning x36's. I know "hope" in one hand and "(r@p" in the other and see what fills up first.

There are MANY other bugs in the x36's that haven't even been talked about here yet, but Unden is trying to fix those issues. As of a month ago, I know for fact Uniden HAS been working on lots of the un talked about bugs/issues. Due to NDA's I can't say anymore.

Why work on the Analyze and other advanced missing features right now, if the basic bugs can't be fixed first.

In 5 more days we hit the 11 month mark from the Nov 13 announcement video. After a full year I will have lost hope. Hard to believe it has taken this long.

A partial refund?

I wonder what the response would be if Uniden offered the WiFi dongle as an optional accessory on their website for $50, and then gave all present 536 owners a $40 refund if they shipped their WiFi dongle back.

I for one would take that offer in an instant. In fact, I regret selling my BCD996XT and then paying $600 for the BCD536HP.

I recently took FEMA's ICS-300, ICS-COML, and AUX-COMM courses. The FEMA instructors in the last two courses mentioned this website by name, and the Uniden BCDx36HP scanners (although not by name) for information about ICS/NIMS interoperability frequencies. I wonder if Uniden understands what the bugs and delays are doing to their reputation (not to mention business opportunities for their competition).

Somewhere in this room. Right now, you're very col
Quite the gamut of responses in here... boycotting ALL Uniden Products? That's not at all extreme.

I admit that I am really surprised that it's taken this long also. But Paul is a stand-up guy and if nothing's been released yet, there's a reason for that. He simply may not be able to state what that reason is - he has his bosses and his employer to answer to also, just like most everyone here. I do remember years ago (before Paul took over) when I tried to deal with Uniden from a vendor's perspective, I got the feeling that the scanner division really wasn't all that important to the parent company, and as a result, much of my requests and suggestions for making their products better fell on deaf ears. So I'm sure internal politics and the company's priorities are a factor in the delays also. Naturally, Paul would never be able to confirm that for us, but we've pretty much all been there with the companies we've worked for and such things are not news to anyone who's ever worked in Corporate America.

I still have faith in Paul and the scanner he designed which is sitting on my desk right now as I type this. It may take another year for all we know, but the updates and apps WILL come. About the only way the update and apps wouldn't happen would be if Uniden suddenly pulled a GRE and decided to go out of business entirely and I'm confident that's not going to happen any time soon. So I'll keep waiting - what else can we do other than wait anyway?

I don't think anyone is faulting Paul directly. We all understand he has bosses and I believe he is just as frustrated as the rest of us. Of course he won't be able to voice it publicly. Like you I am also surprised at how long this is taking. This has to be a first for any company. I hope the engineers didn't over promise and under deliver once they got closer to the possibility of these features actually working.

I realize he is a nice guy, however when someone tells you over and over again its coming.. its coming.. yet nothing ever gets released it really begs the question of how stand up and reputable someone actually is.. maybe he is just the victim of bad office environment.. but at the end of the day he is the product line manager, he is not just some worker bee that many of you are saying he is.. there is a good change he does not just tote the company line.. but has a hand in writing it.

I'm sure he is a lovely guy, he would be even more lovely if the promised products got released.

In the last Siren update he said they were going to start testing but then they got more updates. What happens when they incorporate those updates and get another update? At some point you just have to go with what you have and then update that down the road. I don't know if that's the story behind why we've been waiting for months on end (they keep getting more updates to test), but at some point you just have to put something out. I don't have a 536 and couldn't give a rat's furry @$$ about Siren. I just want Analyze which was available with the HP-1 and should have just been needed to get ported over to the x36 line. It's pretty said if you're making millions of dollars selling these scanners and can't hire an extra engineer or two to work on something besides 1 phone app.

Here's a simple question. Whats so secretive about not letting us know if the app was submitted or not. I'm sure if they said not yet, than they ran into more problems, shocker

Lol shocker indeed... but dont worry Jay911 and his "in the patch" buddy will be along soon enough to tell us how dumb we are for wanting what we paid for.

Where are those Uniden flag men anyways?

GFYS. I am in no way a Uniden 'flag man'

I'm sure I am not the only one that thinks this, but your constant whining is tiresome. Just sell your scanner and stop whining. We get that Uniden is well past release of the app, complaining every other day is not going to get them to release it any faster.

I mean really if it is such a problem, sell your Uniden scanner and go buy a Whistler... They do phase 2 if it is needed where your live... But for god sakes, stop whining like a spoiled little child. It is tiresome.

Get over it, and move on. Besides, where is it written that they are obligated to give an update? That's right they don't.

So if Paul, or any other Uniden rep gives any info at all be happy. They do not have to.

Let us all bend over

Excuse me, but they don't have to provide a working WiFi dongle, and are not legally answerable when they don't??? It's been six months.

Please don't give me the excuse that it's their supplier. I don't care; I didn't pay their supplier.

Now, as it happens, I don't plan to use the WiFi adapter or the Android app. I just don't like being sold something that still doesn't work after six months.

I believe IBM practiced similar tactics in the 1960s, and the result was a USDoJ investigation and a consent decree.
