Construction of the tower structure at the New Crownsville site has (finally) started. The shelter and other infrastructure is already in place.

Anne Arundel County Gov ----

"This week you may notice a low flying helicopter in Anne Arundel County. Planned construction on the Crownsville Public Safety Tower will be taking place Wednesday, April 13th starting around 8 a.m. and a low flying helicopter will be transporting materials for the towers. If you notice the helicopter, please know that it is for planned construction work and continue on with your day."

If one wanted to watch, Turks Cap Lily Lane would be a good perch.

There are now RF antennas on the New Crownsville site. The Brooklyn Park site has what looks like an RF antenna, but it's mounted very close to the pole, suggesting it is directional. They also must be having security problems because there is what looks like a crime camera trailer parked inside the surrounding fence.

Anyone know a timeline of when this system will be operational? There are still a ton of XTS radios on the system that still need to be replaced.

It was supposed to be this year - I think they released more detailed budget materials yesterday and it might be in there somewhere. I'd guess Q4.

The Capital Budget for FY23 proposes $10M for the radio system, with $22M previously allocated. FY24 will ask for a final amount of $2M. The total for the project actually decreases by $13M, which suggests that part of the funding is being transferred to the new 911 Center project and the Technology Improvement Program.

Anne Arundel County, Maryland (the County) respectfully requests that the buildout deadline for WRKC639 be extended.

Regarding this path, the Shipley location has been fully constructed since July 2021. The County encountered numerous implementation delays at the Crownsville site, including significant weather delays earlier this year during construction of a new 450’ self-supporting tower, along with supply chain and staffing delays associated with the COVID-19 pandemic that have affected all aspects of this project. The Crownsville tower is now fully constructed, and the microwave dish and antenna associated with this callsign have been purchased and delivered to the site and are awaiting an available installation crew for final installation, which is currently scheduled for the week of June 13, 2022. Once the microwave dish and radio equipment are installed at Crownsville, the County will place the path in service which will satisfy the Commission’s buildout requirements.

Out of an abundance of caution the County requests that the buildout deadline for WRKC639 be extend to July 30, 2022.

Granting of the County’s extension request will allow the County to complete its public safety radio system upgrade and provide efficiency and safety enhancements to the County’s first responders who serve County citizens.

FCC licensing data shows three paths for the Crownsville site, connecting to Shipley, Millersville, and Broad Creek. One mw dish was up yesterday morning on the tower structure. Looks like a tower climber just below the mounting area. Side note: the Millersville tower is packed with antennas - I'm assuming some will come down once the new system is operational.

Yes, they currently have both systems working then will take down the old antennas and lines. The MW dishes will also be a back up to fiber at some of the sites. Hopefully soon we will see some activity.
