Multicolor Display Backlight – allows the selection of backlight color to meet the user’s own aesthetic taste .

MAY I ASK WHAT COLORS ?

I wonder if that means you can use red for fire, blue for PD and green for EMS, etc. ? If so, with NAC decode, 2 nice features added, is it enough for me to go back to Uniden, not sure.

Form factor is nearly the same as the 396 on both models, but the speaker grille has been modified to improve audio level and, of course, the functional printing on the product will reflect the new features.

This makes me extremely happy. Form-factor was one of the major reasons I got the 396 over the GRE.

I noticed in the wiki that among the service searches was TV broadcast. The frequency ranges listed exclude the 500-700 MHz region where the TV stations in my area are broadcasting digitally. I gather that TV broadcast reception on the new scanner is limited to analog.

Looks like I may have to upgrade too. :)

I am sure that I can get someone to take my BCD396T off my hands for a little cash towards the new one since rebanding has started and folks with older generation scanners will have to buy something to track rebanded stuff.

Some features I would too like, but it may be that there just isn't enough room on the screen to put everything. Just a guess on my part.

Thanks for catching that. Since TV is all digital as of next Feb, we have removed that as a service search (and I fixed the wiki).

I'll have some pics of the colors later this afternoon.

Yes, you can assign a color to a channel alert (as well as tones and flashing pattern).

It would take a completly different circuit to decode digital TV audio, and that would get expensive.

Paul - Is the "multi-site" feature listed in the Wiki simply the same functionality already existent in the 996, or is it more like the professional radios using RSSI sampling to maintain the strongest/most favored of the multiple sites?

How will the GPS be connected? Thru the same connector as the programming, through a duplicate of the same connector, through a DB9 port?

It is how it exists in the 996. Since two-way radios actually affiliate with sites, it makes sense for them to pick the strongest one (since their talk group activity is going to follow them no mater what tower they are on). With the scanner, you need to pick the site or sites you think will have the comms you want...which might not be the site or sites with the best signal.

Through the existing programming/control port.

Paul, thanks for providing us with this information. I'm looking forward to being a 396XT owner when it comes out.

I was wading thru the thread, which was difficult given the argument going on, and didn't see this question asked.

Given that this radio works with the RH-96 remote head, will there be a second jack to support simultaneous use of GPS? I didn't see this in the Wiki.

Thanks again for the work you do as a liaison between Uniden and the scanning community.

This is the way I have my 996T setup in my truck and it works superbly.

This feature list is excellent. By my count, it shows that Uniden (likely via UPMan) has been listening and paying attention to our requests, input, preferences and ideas for improvement over the 396T.

I, for one, am eagerly looking forward to the release of the new models!

Unfortunately, only one serial port on the unit so it is either/or. I have the same conundrum in my car (I want to use the new features mobile, but am also set up with the RH...of course, for testing I do strap the GPS to the scanner and keep them both up on the windshield).

The Wiki forogt to add the following from your post.

Control Channel Data Output – allows the analysis of control channel data without the need to perform invasive modifications to the scanner

any possibility for knowledgable electrical people to add the second jack?
Or impossible as the radio can only do one function at a time? (GPS or remote head).

I'll get the full 346 specs up later this week. But no, it does not do mil-air.

The scanner is only capable of one at a time.

Yay...NAC decoding...finally. Looks like I'll hold off on that GRE and wait for the 396X to come out. And fire tone out decoding too. The only other thing I wanted to see was user ID display for trunked systems. Maybe it will come as a firmware update one day.

Will the BC346XT have the same frequency coverage as the BR330T? If it does, there will be even less reason to buy one of those "wide band receivers", as most of their features would also be in this new model. I have never used the "race features" in my BR330T. (No WRC in my area)
