I'm working on Wiki pages (with pictures), but it might take me a couple of days to complete. Still planning to release the 396 and 996 rebanding update tomorrow (might slip to Wednesday), running beta tests on the 396XT currently and starting beta tests on the 346XT later this week (slate is filled, but thanks for your offer to help).

Form factor is nearly the same as the 396 on both models, but the speaker grille has been modified to improve audio level and, of course, the functional printing on the product will reflect the new features.

Oh (and hopefully an admin can fix this when they make this a sticky) but my sleepy fingers mistyped the BC346XT in the message title. The posting is correct.

Is the speaker itself is going to be larger on the 396XT?

The speaker is the same size. However, we found that the geometry of the BCD396T's design could be optimized to get significantly better SPL by changing to the "hole punch" grille on the BCD396XT. The end result is improved volume level in the new model.

Has anyone heard of a date in 2009 that Uniden will release the BC346XT to the public? I've checked Uniden website and various others with no luck. I'm really itching to get a new "toy" but don't want to buy a BC246T if this one is due soon.
Thanks and Happy New Year All

Thanks. I knew something looked different. That does make a lot of sense.

i bought the pro-137 when ratshack blew them out for $79.00. i assume it has the same gut's as the br330t and bcd396t.it seem's a lot more sensitive though.

The Pro-137 only looks like the BR330T & BCD396T. It is only a 1000 ch. 10 bank conventional scanner with no trunk tracking capabilities.

For Upman

Paul,

With the BCD396XT coming out, can NASCAR be programmed into it as well? I have an old scanner and am looking to seriously upgrade so I can receive the State Police that have gone digital. I would like to be able to use it to the couple of races I attend as well.

Thanks

Sure. Just like with pretty much any of DMA scanners (but if you are familiar with SC230 or BR330T, it won't do Race Car systems...just regular conventional systems).

You can simulate a RACE system on any modern scanner. Put the frequencies in a conventional system and name each frequency with the driver's name and car number.

For example the channel name my look like this:
"Bob__________123" (car number last three positions).

Wow. Lot of reading to do for the past few days I have been gone and most of it was bickering.

Thanks for all the info Paul. Many of us really appreciate it man. I am anticipating the 346XT very much. While the 396T vs the 396XT may not have THAT many differences, from what I have seen the 346XT is going to be a huge improvement over the 246T. No one is on digital in my area, but I am not sure whether I should go ahead and spend the extra for digital for the future. Or if I am better off sticking with no digital scanner and save that difference towards the next scanner that is released with even more features a few years down the road.

Besides the difference of scanning digital and not scanning digital...what are the feature differences of the two new models?

Very first post in this very thread shows what features are added with the 396XT vs 346XT

He didn't ask what the difference between the old and the new were, he asked what the difference between the 396XT and 346XT were.

The only difference I could see were the lack of the multi-colored backlight and no IMBE support on the BC346XT

Slow down for a second and read my response, which said the first post answers the question. It lists all the features added by the XT, then says:

The BCD396XT will provide the same enhancements to Uniden’s Trunk Tracker IV flagship handheld platform. In addition, this new model adds:

* Trunk Tracker IV – follows trunked traffic on APCO 25, Motorola, LTR, and EDACS systems (including EDACS systems using ESK)
* 25,000 total channels
* NAC Decoding – allows specific agencies to be monitored on P25 conventional channels
* P25 One-Channel Trunking – supports P25 conventional systems that include both NAC and TGID access control on a single frequency
* Automatic P25 Threshold – fully automates the optimization of P25 reception
* Multicolor Display Backlight – allows the selection of backlight color to meet the user’s own aesthetic taste
* Visual Alert Notification – lets alerts be assigned to specific display colors, flash patterns, audible tones, and volume levels.

That would indicate all of the 396XT features on top of the 346XT. Sorry if my response was confusing to you.
