The sound your hearing on SRSO channel 4 (460.400) happens all the time when the bands (ducting) occurs in the area.

If it was a cordless phone should it be continuous interference? The problem I am having is that it only happens for a day or two then It may not occur for another week or two. Right now I have no interference even if I turn the squelch all the way down. Nothing but static.

I hear the same thing on both my scanners and my ham rig (mobile) all the time.

I am assuming it is ducting from another agency (who knows where) and is either P25 hash or MDT .

I hear it on pretty much all frequency ranges in the Public Safety band

So you hear it too sometimes. I am currently using a uniden bc95xlt. I am looking into upgrading as you know to the bcd396xt. Is their an option in the bcd396xt to enter the pl tone and block that noise out? I know their is a decoder built in to read pl tones but can you actually use the tones to only receive the station transmitting the tone. And would I still be able to hear units on talkaround?

Well after reading the easier to read manual I just answered my own question lol. But I am still curious about talkaround? Do they use these pl tones on talkaround too. I would not want to block that out.
