bcd996p2 is mounted in car. I did program it before with my laptop.
now it won't even recognize a USB cable being plugged in. I can't remove
it from the car without help. I've tried every cable I found and none of
them are recognized. even tried one with a chip. nope. I tried a reset
and now I have a scanner in my car I can't program with no freq's on it.
Any thoughts out there?

I believe the 996p2 uses its own USB cable. Did you load the driver first?

It used a standard mini-USB cable. All you need to do is install the Uniden USB cable driver and you'll be good to go. It may be required to turn the scanner OFF and back ON, or possibly re-boot Windows to detect the cable & scanner after the driver is installed. Find one that has a ferrite choke, two is even better.

My 996P2 uses a standard USB cable.
Windows will assign a driver.
If you look in device manager, you will see which port the driver has been assigned to.
