• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello all,
I've tried different opc 1122u cables (unsure if the first was bad) as well as ver 2.3 and 3.4 of the CS f3020 / 5020 cloning software. When I select read or information on the sw I always get an "illegal information" dialog.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you

Is your radio new or used? Is it possible that a previous user set the password?

Also, have you tried all the possible COM ports? Check in Windows manager and see what COM port becomes active when you connect the radio to the PC with the programming cable. That is the COM port that you want to use.

Another possible problem...someone disable data on the CS when they last wrote the codeplug. Loosely translates to you can't read the radio (but you can write).

This was the problem with a F221 I bought a few years ago...solution was to go to the local Icom guy get a codeplug for a F121 and then dump it into my F221. Yes, different bands but the radio would accept it (VCO wouldn't lock of course. Don't know if that trick works with a 5021 (I'd be willing to send a 4021 codeplug).

Is it possible the screen/display/function keys have been locked? Unlock the function keys and give that a shot.

Cheers,

It is used. I know the original owner and he told me the distributor he bought it from so I shot them an email seeking advice. Yes, I can see the COM port being populated (COM2) when I plug the cable in.

Thanks for the help.

Is there a risk of "bricking" the 5021 with a 4021 codeplug? If you can pm the 4021 I'd like to give it a shot.

Thank you.

Ok, I feel silly now. I disassembled the dash and pulled the radio to verify the model number. It turned out to be an IC-F121 (which looks identical to the aforementioned).
Bought the proper software (CS-F100) and it worked like a charm. Thanks everyone for your help,

Cheers.

Glad to hear it worked. Those units look a lot alike!
