I am in process of creating a NEW favorites list using Sentinel. Is there a way to have Sentinel NOT copy any of the encrypted frequencies that are mixed in with my states P25 system? I know in Proscan there is an option check box to do this. Last time I loaded a FL to my scanner I had to manually delete all the ENC freqs. by going thru the list of TG's on RR database of my states system and then delete them one by one. I THINK I read somewhere that Sentinel simply IGNORES the ENC freqs. Thanks.

Sentinel does not have the option to ignore encrypted talkgroups. If you append the system, you'll get whatever the database shows, encrypted or not. No option in the Profile editor, nor Favorites list editor to remove encrypted items. The scanner will skip them, with, at most, a brief pause to verify encryption is being used, but no way to peremptorily remove them before or after appending a system.

FreeSCAN also has an option to skip importing encrypted items, and I presume the ARC software packages do as well.

OK thank you, I kind of figured that Sentinel didn't give you that option. But no big problem. I use Sentinel only to program my SDS200. I use Proscan for my bcd996p2 and bct15x. I had some extra sd cards so I have been practicing programming, trying to learn all the ins and outs. Basically the only issue I had was those encrypted channels. But there are only a few so I will manually delete 'em. Most of the ENC frequencies are for police departments. I also noticed in the recent database update one the the towns in my listening area has switched their fire dept to the state P25 system. Slowly some agencies are switching.

If you’re already using ProScan for other scanners, you can build your favourites lists on there as well for the SDS/BCDx36HP scanners. Way less banging your head off the wall compared to sentinel.

I suppose you are right. The problem is both programs have complexities and since I rarely use them I tend to forget how to program the radios. Once I programmed my radios with what I wanted I left them with that programming and have not had to go back to re program except for maybe a few times. I don't use quick keys on my sds200...not really needed. I just monitor a 4 site system P25. But the other day I was experimenting so I can get a work flow nice and smooth without having to keep stopping to see if I was doing it right. Since I use the sds200 only for my 4 site state system I figured I would set up a new FL in Sentinel and be done with it. I monitor everything else on my other 2 scanners (996P2 & 15X) which I use Proscan with. The more I putzed around with both programs the better I could use them.

Don't delete them, avoid them. The reason I say this is if you use ID searching at some point rather than ID Scan you won't be stopping on them. Delete them and during ID search they will show up to annoy you.
Agreed. Once you delete a talkgroup definition, it becomes mystery meat to the scanner just like a brand new talkgroup. You can't avoid it, turn it off via service type, or anything else. And since talkgroups aren't scanned, there's no speed penalty during scanning for leaving them in.
