New owner of an SDS150 and I'm trying to get it figured out. There's a little learning curve here over my trusty Whistler WS1040. Right now, I'm trying to figure out the scan speed. It seems slow to me, and I'm even missing the first part of some transmissions because of it, I suspect.
I have turned OFF Nationwide / zip code scanning and am scanning only from 2 favorites lists. One Favorites List consists of 5 different local conventional systems, and each system has between 2-5 frequencies (a total of 25-30 frequencies total in the first favorites list) that are a mixture of NFM and P25 Conventional. The other Favorites List is one conventional system that has a total of five P25 conventional only frequencies. Between two Favorites Lists, I'd say a total of 35-ish frequencies are being scanned.
I've verified that EVERYTHING is turned off except for the two Fav Lists that I am interested in. I have turned OFF all filtering for each single frequency programmed in. I have set the "squelch" at the 2 setting, which is what I've read is recommended. I am not in an RF dense area at all, so there's no way I'm being hammered by intermod. I have the "hold time" set to "0". I did notice on some prior experimenting that when I increased the "hold time", it slowed down scanning. I had "hold time" confused for "delay time".
Time and time again, though, my WS1040 is stopping and grabbing transmissions that the SDS150 misses or is late stopping on. Hard for me to believe that a $950 piece of engineering marvel is being outperformed on NFM and Conventional P25 by a $300 five-year-old scanner. I just refuse to buy that, so I'm thinking that there's something else somewhere that needs adjusted.
Is this really the case, or is the scanner "scanning faster" than the display can update? I'd like to think that if the display updated as fast as the scanner actually was scanning, it would be a total blur and consumers might not like that, just a thought, I don't know.
