It's the multiband scanner antenna(receive only)

Doesn't come with instructions. Is it tuneable for 800 at all? I don't know how to adjust the antenna to make 800 any better. Anybody has a chart or anything, much appreciated. (Antenex's website isn't helpful at all)

the two 800 TRS that I listen to are 866-869. Any idea on the distance from ferule to coil (or whatever it's called) for those freqs?

It doesn't come with instructions because it doesn't really need any. There is no tuning that you can do to it. It has already been tuned at the factory.

Scanner antennas are always a compromise, and will never be as good as single band antennas. If you want super 800MHz reception, then I would get a 800MHz antenna.

That being said, I use an ABSCANC and have no trouble with it listening to trunked systems in my city and county.

Let me know if I can help you in any way with it.

Thanks,
Jeff

alright...I guess I moved the antenna after I purchased it from you. Oh well, guess I'll just play with it until I figure out where it was. Thanks.

Nowhere did I say or imply that you moved/adjusted the antenna.

The scanner antennas are not tunable like a quarter wave whip is. I guess you could fiddle with moving the elements a few millimeters either way, and that may help 800MHz, but it will probably hurt the other bands. They are tuned at the Antenex factory to perform within spec over the specified ranges.

If it doesn't perform on 800MHz as well as you think it should, then you can send it back and I will personally put it on a network analyzer and test it myself. It is always possible that you have a defective antenna.

Just keep in mind that any scanner antenna will not perform as well as a single band dedicated antenna. There are just too many compromises to make a passive device work very efficiently over such a wide spectrum.

I want all of my customers to be happy with their purchases, and you don't sound like you are. Just let me know what it is I need to do to change that.

Thanks,
Jeff

That antenna can be raised or lowered appx 3/8 of an inch in the mount. It will not effect 800 however. For 800only try MAXRAD 8355 which is dual coil 5db gain in chrome or black.

 Sorry. I wasn't criticizing, I was owning up to the fact that I DID move the antenna in an attempt to improve 800 performance. My fault. I'm about 99% certain grounding is my main issue. I don't have any permanent mounts, and get varied performance from all of my antennas based on the surface. My current patrol vehicle does not have a permanent mount for a scanner (to be rectified on the next CVPI).

I'm very happy with all of the products I've purchased from you. They all work flawlessly, and I just have to find a good ground for them. When I install any of them in place of the Motorola inmount antenna, everything is perfect.

LarrySC: Thnx for that. I'll just tighten the screw back down then. I'll also look at that antenna.

Sorry for any confusion there!
