• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Saw this on a truck in a parking lot. Mag mount. Looked in the cab quick but couldn't see a visible radio. Cell booster maybe?

I think you may be correct. Kinda looks like I've seen for a Wilson amp.

Wilson brand. Cant tell from the pic if its the newer or older style, but its most likely a cell amp kit.

Wilson dual band. See a lot of those out here with the coax running back into the cab via the 3rd brake light which is something I just don't understand.

If you didn't see a cradle in there, then there is probably a small panel antenna in the headliner to provide a boost to anyone in the vehicle.

how do you not understand it?
the coax needs to get to the booster somehow. Running it thru the third brake light is an easy way of doing it, provided you do it right.

Doing it right consists of removing the third brake light, installing an NMO mount just above it and closing everything up. If you are going to take the trouble of routing the coax that way, it doesn't make any sense not to go with a permanent mount.

1. In a leased vehicle situation, they may be penalized for drilling holes.

Although, you're in lubbock, so I bet a bunch of the ones you see are oil/gas which probably have 1 or 2 NMO mounts anyway, so they "should" do it with an NMO... but chances are they buy the wilson kits in bulk from wilson and go with whats in the box VS ordering a NMO version.

2. The "right" way of running thru the third brake light is to order a second gasket (provided that the original has one) and notching it for the cable, then putting it all together, or using clear silicone to make a gasket with a notch for the cable. That way the cable isnt pinched by reinstalling the third brake light. Also, ideally, you should run the cable thru the bottom of the third brake, not the top, so you can be assured that rain wouldnt get thru.
Cant do that with thicker coax, but the RJ174 on the mag mount wilson antennas, or the thin cable on a mag mount XM radio antenna can easily be run this way. Short install time, short deinstall time without permanent modifications.

Just because you or I NMO everything, that doesnt mean that is the correct way for the entire world to do it.
