I have found the Remtronix to be the best for distant systems. For close-by simulcast systems, I have had success with the Comet Miracle Baby. But the most important factor for me has been the SDR and software. SDR-Trunk and SDRPlay RSP1b solved my simulcast problems. What software and hardware are you using?

Remtronix makes many different antennas. Which model antenna did you try, and what freqs were dropping? 150, 400,7/800?

Perhaps the same frequencies the OP mentioned in this post as coming in 0 to 3 bars?

Lol Could be. Problems with todays people is they post asking for help and exclude relevant info or only give half of it. (which Remtronix he is speaking of) And they do not respond to relevant questions asked, like @jtwalker asking if he is sharing antenna with sdr, @buddrousa asking, if sharing, how? And yours, asking if he took sdr out of the equation to rule out its possible interference.

If he was having issues with this on a tower 4 miles away
PCTEL 18 element 16 dbi

then it was either pointed the wrong way or there are some issues in his home. OP needs to start flipping breakers. My 800 smartzone would not work inside my house years ago. Worked fine the minute I went out side. Started flipping breakers and discovered baby monitor was the culprit.

I tried Sdr trunk, unitrunker and DSDplus

I am using at the moment a 4 element Yagi that's indoors. I am on Long Island and can get systems from NYC NJ CT and NJ using rtl dongles.
You mentioned using a PCTEL 18 element 16 dbi and were still having issues. You say the 800b is drops signals from 4 miles away.

4 questions.

How were you hooking the PCTEL and the 800b to your dongle?

Where is the antenna mounted?

How good is the coax and what is it? rg58, rg6 etc?

Are you using any splitters to use 1 antenna on rtl dongles and scanners?

huh?

Sdrtrunk, Unitrunker DSDPlus, all an sdr and handle simulcast quite nice.
I’m in the middle of a P25 simulcast system with almost 20 towers. In my testing of various software and hardware, the SDRPlay RSP1B with SDR-Trunk (nightly build) along with the comet miracle baby completely eliminates simulcast distortion. It outperforms even my SDS100. The Airspy R2 is good, but still has some distortion. I have one of my SDRPlays dedicated to that system since the settings have to be exact to eliminate the distortion.

I run a rem 800 on mine and can reach out 30+ miles from in my house. Check your connects. If running sma to bnc, ect ect you may have a bad connection point. I had it happen to me. Try to keep your connections as simple as possible and "clean". If you bought jumpers, are they quality? Simple little things like that make a BIG difference.
