Just an update. It was nice weather over the weekend so I took the outside parts apart and found a little amount of rust on the connectors between antenna and coax. The coax still looked new. So I cleaned (all connectors) them up wiped off the rust and put it back together. It did get a good ammount of the range back but its not like new, which Im not expecting it to be.

Nothing in the antenna connector should rust. Rust is from iron/steel and good connectors don't use those. A rusty connection will cause all kinds of problems.

I'd take a close look at everything and use a magnet to see if it sticks to anything.

Also, reassembling it without waterproofing it will result in you having to go through all this again later. Good waterproofing is important.
