I guess with the size of this they have overcome what joebearcat said about physics!!😉. Only kidding..I had a similar antenna years ago and it was pretty useless. Just Ok on a local 800 but like an attenuator on anything lower .
This is the original diamond 77
and a very good one.
I have one that I move between HT’s and the SDS100. Nice little antenna. On the SDS100, I use the Airspy adapter.

Lately I’ve using the one off of eBay From Panda Communications when I’m in the house.

So I did some rudimentary testing with the 920S today. Not as good as the 820S on 800, but close. Seems to be close to the 842S in performance, but not as stiff and not deaf on 700. Mind you this is based on looking at the RSSI for the signals received from a stationary position.

What is the 900MHz band used for and do I really need an antenna to cover that band?

I know most trunking systems use the 700-800MHz range.

scannermaster.com guys HIGHLY recommend the Tri-band Remtronix 842S unless your focusing in on a single band or dual. If you want to listen to everything get a Tri-Band or All Band antenna. I just bought a Bearcat SDS100 from them and discussed this extensively over the phone. I bought the tri-band foldable comet antenna but Im going to buy a 842S and compare the two. I like the comet because you can fold it up and deploy it when you want to use it. Its also a great gain over the stock antenna like the Remtronix antennas claim to be. Comets are also robust like Remtronix. However, remtronix are the antennas most bought for the SDS100 today.
