thanks, sorry for all the questions I do appreciate the help. I did order the tri-band antenna and was just curious is it as simple as connecting and adding a ground plane under it or do we need to buy a mount with the right connections for the scanner for a home base antenna thanks!

The antenna will work better with a ground plane under it.
There are several ways to get a ground plane, and some of that will depend exactly how and were you are going to mount it.

You'll need appropriate coaxial cable based on the distance and frequencies.

You -should- have lightning protection and proper grounding.

You do want to be careful connecting coax directly to the radio, especially if it is a larger cable. Often a transition cable is used to take the strain off the antenna jack.
