• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

The land of broken calculators.
I did not see a forum for radio accessories so pardon me if I missed it.

I'm looking for a headset with a PTT switch for handsfree operation while transmitting. VOX is not a good option due to the loud sudden noises that occur as well as pauses in the TX. So it needs to have a toggle switch whereby the operator presses the PTT and it remains open until they press the button again and it closes rather than a momentary type switch that we normally think of requiring the operator to press and hold the PTT until they are done transmitting.

The rest of the specs aren't as important. Looking for an accessory to use with kenwood portables but definitely open to using a different make and model if required to get this kind of headset.

Has anyone come across a headset or speaker mic that operates in this fashion?

The only thing I can think of are the Plantronics headsets dispatchers use. They have a locking PTT, however, they're not made to readily plug into a radio.

Headsets for Kenwoods are available from many different manufacturers. What I would do is see if any would make a custom headset interface for you. Might just as easy as changing the PTT switch from momentary to push on\off.

Setcom comes to mind as someone easy to work with as far as custom stuff.

Also, more information would be helpful.

Is this for portable, mobile? Do you want a industral standand over the head, dual reciever, signal reciever, or one of those super light weight telephone headsets.

What kind of enviorment are planing on uing it in?

You also say for Kenwood, what model?

I can tell you that any standard light weight headset will not normally have any kind of PTT.

Other wise I can more then likely fix up what ever you need as I do this type of stuff all the time.
