Hello everyone,

I am interested in the Anytone AT-D168UV radio. I would use it for personal use (for local listening to conversations or talking to radio amateurs in the Ljubljana area), if possible. The user.pdf file (missing) (there are useful talkgroups inside) which I used to help myself. I installed the D168UV_Setup_1.05.exe software on my computer and looked at the options. There are many options and not all of them are easy. The user.pdf file (missing) contains talkgroups for the whole world and can be imported as user.csv (missing) into the "Digital Contact List". I have a few questions:

1. Is it necessary to have a license to purchase and use the Anytone AT-D168UV radio (I don't have one)?
2. If the screen is locked when the Anytone AT-D168UV radio is new and turned on, how do I unlock it?
3. Can you program the Anytone AT-D168UV radio for the Ljubljana and/or Slovenia area before purchase (does this make sense for Slovenia?)?
4. What is the DMR ID of the Anytone AT-D168UV radio and how do I obtain and enter it manually?

Conclusion: The Anytone AT-D168UV radio seems complicated to use. The best thing is that the package includes two antennas and two batteries. I like that it allows you to record conversations on analog frequencies as well as digital frequencies. The D168UV_Setup_1.05.exe software was easy to install on the computer. The problem occurs when installing all the parameters. The link Hoseline is also interesting, where we can listen to conversations.

Question 1: Yes, a license is required to transmit. You MUST get one to activate any DMR groups, you can't listen otherwise without keying up to activate a talkgroup.

2: Programming software. But you have no license, so it's useless anyway.
3: If you know how to use the programming software you can. But again.... without a license it is useless.
4: YOU must get your own DMR ID. Without an amateur radio license, you cannot get one. Again, radio is useless without license.
5: You use programming software.
6: Yes, you register your amateur radio callsign to get the ID. You are out of luck until you get your license.
7: From a user database site.
8: It depends on antenna and if you are simplex or going through a repeater.
9: No, for you it is not worth buying any amateur radio equipment.
10: Irrelevant, as you are not licensed.

If you just want to listen to DMR conversations on amateur radio you might be able to install the "Hoseline" application on your phone and listen to that. It does not require any license and allows you to hear the kind of conversations you would hear on amateur radio. But it is not clear to me what type of conversations on DMR you wish to hear. I also cannot tell you whether that application is available in your country.
